He's increased the tax on the less well off.

Increased tax on new cars.

By backdating emissions tax on old vehicles has rendered many older cars completely worthless. Thus making it near impossible for low income families to replace their vehicles with more fuel efficient ones.

At a time when increased VAT means he could drop fuel tax by 12p and still be where he was income wise a couple of months ago. But still they wheel out that tired old "We're saving the environment" bilge to justify the extra 2p a litre they're going to lumber us with next budget.

Now does this not look like a concerted effort by our socialist PM to drive the hoi poloi off the roads so that they don't slow down the ministerial motorcade ?

Driving to be limited to the rich or those with an expense account and they accuse the Tories of being elitist toffs.

I can't see how he feels our pain as he doesn't even drive and has a chauffeur.

I doubt whether they care much about the environment when they can claim 40p a mile expenses (up to 10,000 miles) and then 25p a mile after that

Bad as the two main parties are, at least we can always cling to the hope that we will not get the dreaded Euro, or get much further into that gravy train club. The Lib Dem's would instantly have us right the way in up to our necks given the chance.

As far as the three main party leaders are concerned, (Brown, Cameron & Clegg), Brown is a total loss, Cameron is another Blair, but Clegg seems to bring a fresh face to politics, although I do not agree with the Lib Dems policies.

Jack Straw told the BBC he "fully understood" the hauliers' concerns, but "government revenues have to come from somewhere".

Holy crap the truth from a politician, the final admission that it's bugger all to do with the environment, it's all about the money.

The problem is that when all the hauliers are forced out of business and deliveries are all made by continental firms, he'll have no income and a womping great bill for paying unemployment benefit. Plus a higher carbon footprint for all the trans-channel fuel runs.

Greed and a total lack of common sense, what an inspiring combination.

Tax is a percentage of the sale, so the higher the cost , more revenue into tha' broons coffers ...the dithering idiot is in trouble , not just on the unsecured £2.7 crewe bribe , and the Northern rock caining that we are going to get ,(as the solvent mortgagees leave , with just the sub sub primers left .......careering into bankruptcy and is also not on the books .)..he needs large quantities of the folding ...there are several U turns coming up over more post dated tax hikes hidden n broons previous budgets as you mentioned ..... , but he has already spent the dosh in order to look flash at the box .......

Its short termism , even the dolt knows he will not see the other side of the election , so he has to last the 2 years to max out his expenses and beef his gold plated pension (an his ego will not let him go before ,becoming britains shortest term PM)

Our local garage had 120.9p per litre posted this morning when I passed it. I could have sworn it had 117.9p per litre posted when I passed it on Monday.

I'm thinking of converting my engine and going over to methane as a propellant. I will install a large inverted funnel over the Houses of Parliament to collect it and stick a pipe on the end to bring it north. :D

Yes the truth is out and, as I suspected, fuel tax is nothing to do with the environment and everything to do with government revenue.

It wouldn't be too bad if our taxes were used responsibly but there's too much government waste and Brown thinks that our money is his money which is wrong as we have earned it

They have an agreement on fuel tax. Sarcozy (or whatever his name is) was trying to get the agreement suspended only a couple of days ago just to placate the French fishermen, who in true French style, are/were blockading all the port and disrupting shipping,
