Over here (over the other pond) it has been bad for a decade or more. However, recently it has gotten a lot of press because it has gone worldwide, which now affects our exports, which makes it even worse than before. And with all the press it is getting, people are spending less and less, which - of course - makes it worse again!

Here in the UK we are still so buoyant that there has been no reduction in the number of illegal immigrants flooding in the enjoy a share of our wealth. Failed bankers are retiring on multi million pensions and interest rates have never been lower.

It's Utopia..............................

This is how we reward FAILED bankers over here, or should that read FAILED wankers?

This is what he oversaw.

Unemployment is rocketing, and the so called government haven't a clue as to the best form of action. Once good companies are going bust on a daily basis, while Nero Brown and Darling fiddle. We have pumped billions into the banks that are still paying obscene bonuses and pensions, and yet a damned good small van company is about to go under because it is in desperate need of a LOAN of 25 million pounds.

Our National Debt has risen from around 40% of UK GDP in 1997 to nearly 150% now with all the bank bailouts and this figure doesn't include the hidden PFI initiatives and enormous public sector pension liabilities - I fear we are close to bankruptcy :(

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/finance...2-trillion.html

All of the banks that we have pumped taxpayers money into (HBOS, RBS and Northern Rock) have all lost many billions of pounds and the government is still pouring more and more money into these banks with the latest scheme being a toxic debt initiative

I'm trying to get the Government to pour millions and millions into my bank account, so far without any success though. B)

perhaps you haven't been irresponsible enough

You have given me food for thought rong! I should probably get myself into a big overdraft, say £250.000 then let the Government put a million into my account to clear the overdraft off and keep me going so that I don't get into that situation again. Tanks for pointing that out. :good:

Unfortunately that is how things work in today's world. Act irresponsibly and let the government support you. Let the working fools who tend to their money matters responsibly pay for it.

The irresponsible ones should have been taken over completely and ALL bonus's and pension payouts stopped. El Gordo is issuing all sorts of legal threats against his former friend with the obscene pension plan, but will probably get nowhere in court.

It hasn't really started yet

big price rises are working their way through the system.... to hit by spring/summer..... caused buy the massive hike in raw materials and fuel costs from the end of last year , coupled with the plummeting pound (20%fall yoy) ramping up imports ...there is going to be civil unrest not seen since the 70's in the UK . Summer going into autumn

Saying that though ...if your jobs safe and you've owned your house 10 years or more (on a tracker) its not to bad ...although the exchange rate is pants for the odd French weekend ........heh

I'm sort of expecting redundancy to hit by the summer , Last christmas I thought that I would be out by march ...so I'm still hanging on ...every payday is a bonus for me

Fred the shreds answer is easy , concerning his pension , just say that he will take exactly the same percentage cut as Gordo and Dharrrlings ! He only lost £25bn ...what the hell has Gordo racked up so far ? £100's bn's .? percentage should be pro rata ...............

.... I think that trillion is gordos new pet word ........ Like Global , US sub prime , etc .... Freds pension is just a smokescreen for the real damage done ...a drop in the ocean !

make the number big enough......... people cannot get their heads around them .....

What astounds me about the current mess is why it has been allowed to happen. I am but a simple Yorkshire lad, but the way the world was heading has been apparent to me for many years.

A few years ago, in answer to a topic of the time, I posted a link on WF to something I had put up on the net just before Toady Bliar came into office, and which has had just one or two small additions as the persona changed.

It was ridiculed by certain people, but what was predicted is now happening.

I had hoped I would be gone before it came to pass. :(

Here is a link to the "money" bit:-

because some people were making money out of it ......... cats

made a bit myself for a bit of effort ..........on the property gravy train ...... complaints ...dunno ...? bought a house under Majors black Wednesday for £64K and sold just after Blairs retirement at £450K.. sub a tad over £30k spend on renovation and 2.5 years of sweaty nads ...made me more than my job ever did over the decade ...... wont happen again ...though ...

Unfortunately the mess is going to hit those who got late into the game (grace of god and all that !) or never got on it !

...Brown the muppet has been used........ BIG TIME ......Blair walked... leaving a fall guy who thinks he was in control and not enough smarts to see what was coming , Blair then trousered $15m on the back of blood money from the US (179 UK troops and counting ...christ knows how many mutilated ) Iraqi's in the thousands .....How much do you think he has contributed to military charities ..?.. bet Ive done more just buying a poppy every year ! sweet FA .... kept the status and the jet ..with no responsibilities , other than his growing portfolio and his grasping trollop of a wife ...!

$15m for 10 years work, not forgetting the freebies ,not bad if you can bastard the consequences .............cabinet went along as they had back seats on the gravy train too (expenses, gold plated pensions etc).....press the buttons and just dribble in unison ...then wallet the wonga !

!

Straw pushed for the 30 year disclosure on the cabinet minutes as it was Brown who what swung it ! worse than corruption .... its vicious

The ones who ran these banks are now out and are set up for their remaining life ...retire at 50 on 7 zeros ...... gated communities

the ones who were in control are now out ....a global ponzi scheme

there are billions missing in the haliburton stitchups ... PALLET LOADS of $ being flown out and not accounted for ....!

The sub primes and 125% loans ...sliced and diced up with good loans then sold on as packages to investors who then sell on for a percentage ....and now the music stops only for the ones left in the game to find that all the chairs have been sold ... the ones who left early are down the pub drinking champers ....

this is going to be worse than Japans decade of deflation ...way deeper and faster

P.S Japanese exports were down 64% in dec ....monster ......

We need to get back to basics with lending, especially mortgages. No more than 90%, and no higher repayment per month than 25% of ONE partners income. This would help keep houses affordable. :D

nope...... wasn't claustrophobia that I was feeling last night ..hit the wine and beer reserves ......not a good idea ,after a bad day at work to have a glass or few ,then post is the early hours after a serious stock depletion ...... (lidl are doing 5 bishops fingers for £4 (is that a hand of beer ?) ...too good to miss , more than a handful)

Would like to live there eventually though.... near to the sea ....long term goal I guess

Fry bentos sales are up 46% according to sky this morning ...... I should know ...just looking at my cupboard ....innit

I was in Wales for part of the miners strike in the 80's during the holidays (I was a hairy student ) my local was a miners pub , it was shocking , the division that I was seeing , utter hatred of the government and police ...and the hardship ....just hitting a very localized part of the community , other people immune ....Ive got a feeling this is going to be much worse and more wide spread .... Its the hatred of the government and police which is the most worrying , its nowhere near that level yet ...but ......

Nobody in charge seems to have any answers

I think we will be hit by high inflation over the next few years as Alistair Darling has already given the go ahead for the Bank of England to print money :0

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business...rk-1634558.html

The problem is that once the printing presses start up, without political self-control, it gets out of hand I mean look at what has happened in Zimbabwe !!!

With Brown and Darling in charge of this new policy, it is bound to end up like all their other attempts to get the UK out of recession i.e. it will end up as another spectacular failure :(

Also talking of the plummeting pound, further colossal government borrowing in conjunction with printing money will just devalue all the currency currently in circulation and may even lead to a 'run on the pound' as masses of UK investors switch to more stable currencies like the dollar or the euro.
