andsome Posted March 27, 2009 Report Share Posted March 27, 2009 I vae always preferred IE 7 since it first came out. I recently tried IE8, and found that on my computer it really slowed things down. Hyperlinks in particular were VERY slow to open. I tried FF a long time ago and did not like it, but after all that has been said on this forum I have just downloaded it for a further trial. It is NOT as fast as IE 7 on this computer. Try as I might I cannot get the spell checker to work. I will give it a little longer, and will probably revert to IE 7, and wait for fixes to IE 8 before installing it again. Dencandy Posted March 31, 2009 Report Share Posted March 31, 2009 So you can see some of the issues that people consider:1 Is the browser stable (does it keep crashing)?2 Is it fast or slow?3 Can it access all websites?4 Are there useful add-ons (like spellcheckers)?5 Is it secure or insecure?6 Will it access sites like YouTube & can it save the videos?7 Will it work with a download manager/accelerator?8 Does it fit in with the user's likes & dislikes (e.g. some people just hate anything associated with Microsoft)?9 What does it look like on the screeen & can the appearance be changed? andsome Posted March 31, 2009 Report Share Posted March 31, 2009 IE 7 is definitely faster than FF on my computer. However, FF is much better as a program than it was when I first tried it. Compared with IE Spell, the spell checker is quite abysmal. I also had a hell of a job getting new tabs to open up in my home page, they insisted in opening up as UNTITLED. A very good helper from the forum put me onto an add on. In my point of view IE 7 is MUCH easier to configure. It is a pity that when I tried IE 8 it was painfully slow, and hyperlinks were even slower. I will give IE 8 time to settle and wait for the first patches, and may then use that instead of FF. Having said that FF is very much improved over a couple of years ago, if only they would make it easier to configure. Thunderbug takes a little getting used to but is equally as good as Outlook Express. :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

andsome Posted April 8, 2009 Report Share Posted April 8, 2009 I am still persisting with Fire Fox and am settling down to it now that I have got a few things sorted. It is definitely slower than IE 7 but better than IE 8. One useful add on is 'Plain old favourites', as I definitely do not like the Fire Fox book mark system it is too messy. Thunder bug seems to be OK as an e mail program except for one big problem. It is not possible to click to go back to a previously opened e mail or forward to a previously opened e mail. The back and forward buttons are greyed out. I have dragged a couple of arrow buttons to the tool bar, and can now go forward to the next UNOPENED e mail, but NOT to a previously opened e mail.
