johnoo
On regular intervals, monthly,I go into Control Panel, Network & Internet Connection, Internet Options, General , Delete Tempory Files.Up untill today I have always deleted both tempory files and Cookies. However today I find that the screen has changed, see screen print attached.I have left the check marks as in the example.Do you think I am correct? If not what are better settings?windows_forum_message_3_July.pdf
-pops-
I think most people here use Ccleaner for housekeeping such as that. I can't comment on the facility that you use as I've never come across it.http://www.ccleaner.com/

Boris
has anybody else got an opinion as to if I have the settings correct? They are correct - if they do what you want :)Such things are a matter of personal choice - there is no Right or Wrong. ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
Cookies: there are many cookies that I want to keep, e.g. login cookies. CCleaner let me configure which ones I want to keep, the rest is deleted every time I run CCleaner.Keeping too many temporary Internet files will slow things down after a while. Here too, CCleaner will take care of it. And of lots of more things.
Dencandy
Also, the new menu that you have is part of Internet Explorer 8 which you must have downloaded. I also rarely use IE's own clean-up, preferring, like others, CCleaner which does a more thorough job. However, your chosen clean-up settings appear OK to me, but to make an informed decision about what is right for your circumstances, you need to research into what the different items refer to. AlanHo
I agree with the other Ccleaner users. It maks the task of controlling cookies and temp files so much easier.

It maks the task of controlling cookies and temp files so much easier.OK, I am convinced that I should use CC Cleaner, but being an old un I am a bit scared!Would you advise before I press the button :-Does it delete my Bookmarks? If I set an option to delete a cookie, and i find later that I should have kept it, does it stop me entering the web site, or is it just slightly slower 'till it resets its cookie?Hope you can bear with a novice! Hb_Kai
The only types of cookies I keep are ones that automatically log me in but I still get rid of them using CCleaner because I only need to type my user name and password into each website once until I clean it again. It won't stop you from using the website at all. If you do remove a cookie which you would have rather kept, it's easy to get it back. Probably harder to keep it away, at that. And no. It won't delete your bookmarks. Dencandy
To set your preferences for cookies with CCleaner, click on Options on the lower left side when CCleaner opens, then select Cookies near the top left. That will give you 2 lists: left - cookies to delete; right - cookies to keep. When you run CCleaner all the cookies listed on the left will be deleted, only those on the right will remain. To move a cookie from the delete side to the keep side, click on it in the left box to hi-light it, then click on the right pointing arrow to move it across to the keep side. Voila! thereafter that cookie will be kept until you use some other method to delete it.So you can probably guess what the first C in CCleaner stands for. :D
