My mother always said that her family had some sort of genealogical connection with Shakespeare.I often wondered if it was a gynaecological connection but dare not ask. Maybe it's some deep existentialist point that my poor mind is incapable of grasping.As for catgate's re-writing of the bard's words, I'm too shocked to to comment.Regarding his mother's claim to be geneologically descended from the bard, according to Steve Olsen's "Mapping Human History" it's quite possible. This is because every time we go back a generation we double the number of our ancesters. So after 40 generations we all have many millions of ancestors, easily equaling the entire population of Britain at the time of Shakespeare. Steve Olsen concludes: "Everyone in the world today is most likely descended from Nefertiti, from Confucius, and from Julius Caesar." Or any other ancient historical figure, so long as they had at least one child, who themselves had at least one child, etc, etc... So we can all happily go around telling our friends, without fear of lying, that we're probably a descendent of the Queen of Sheba. Bet you didn't know that. However, since you have brought this up I can quite see that andsome's left wing tendancies may have something to do with an ancestoral link with the one eyed son of the manse.
