It's got Windows 7 - the chap told me how to make a back up disc, so that's ok.I have to install:Mouse & keyboardM/S OfficeTiscali ISPPrinterAVGAdAwareWireless connection for the other two computers (I have the bits - the new PC and the laptop are wireless enabled already) As soon as my 3 Hamster holiday makers have gone home tomorrow - we will be setting it up.What Order should I put them on? Having said that, there do appear to be some who have a successful installation. I installed it, and it has somehow blocked some gif images - not all though. I uninstalled and went back to 8.5, but I still have the problem on one of the laptops, even after reinstating 8.5. HERE is a link to the forum. This may also apply to your printer and wireless network.Windows will look for your internet connection and usually sets it up automatically.I would then install Microsoft Security Essentials. Not AVG or Adaware. I am happy to rely on the Windows firewall and M.S.E for protection.Install MS office. If you use Outlook for Emails it is a doddle getting connected with the wizard.Other software - including paint Shop Pro can follow.......... I don't dislike it - I used it for a year or two - but found it unecessary.The security I have has proved to be totally adequate - minimal resources hogged and all malware kept well at bay. Lavasoft had been one of the very first companies that provided anti-spyware. I purchased a license of one of the early releases of Ad-Aware, and I was happy with it for many years.Then one day they created a controversy with a new algorithm that actually allowed some spyware. This, understandably, led to a incredible big outcry in the Lavasoft forum. Lavasoft reacted by deleting all posts that criticized the new algorithm, meaning that practically all posts were deleted. A week or so later they shut the forum down permanently.They set up a new support site for paid users, but I was never able to login to that site. Emails to Lavasoft were never answered.This behaviour of a software company was and is completely unacceptable to me. I uninstalled Ad-aware from all computers, and I have never touched it again! -pops- Posted December 3, 2009 Report Share Posted December 3, 2009 On the subject of drivers, in some (many?) cases the drivers installed by W7 are basic and do not provide the full facilities for which the hardware is capable. For example, two printers I have will do duplex printing. The duplexing mode wasn't installed with W7 and in both instances everything fouled up when I tried to use it. All is OK now after I installed the full drivers from HP and Epson so, if you find your hardware only half works after W7, have a look for new drivers either on DriverMax or the manufacturers website. Most of the commercial brands do not supply a full installation disc. Insist on one. Also, most of the commercial brands use dedicated hardware and software, and load the computer with trial programs, and Norton or Mcaffee, and other junk that you don't want. They tell you it is free, but obviously it is included in the costing. The local shop in Brownhills supplied me with a replacement last year for the one he had supplied several years ago.
