I'm in a spot of trouble

We got married two years ago - exactly 12 months after meeting on an internet forum. An unlikely start but a great result.

Last Saturday we held a family party and one of my wife's grand daughters arrived with her boyfriend and announced that they had just got engaged.

Later, whilst chatting with my step grand daughter, she asked me how much it costs to get married.

I told her that I had no idea - I was still paying for it...........

Never seen the need to get married. We've been together for nearly fifty years with almost never a cross word.

ALL of our contemporaries have divorced or separated, some more than once, in that time.

Well done pops. :flowers:

Thank you all for your kind thoughts.

Angela had a Minor Stroke on Sunday January 8th so I phoned the ambulance straight out and they took her in. They let her out on the 10th and seemed fine, just a little tired. The following Sunday I went into the bedroom for her to take her 4 pm tablets and she was barely breathing and I couldn't rouse her so I called the ambulance in again and they took her straight in to the Borders General. My son and I followed straight through behind the ambulance and when we got to the Hospital they had brought her round and she was kept on oxygen overnight and didn't seem to bad on the Monday when we went to see her.

It all went downhill on the Tuesday when we went to visit. Some plonker of a Nurse told her she had got to sit all day in the chair and she was very weary and tired so we put her into bed much to the distaste of the nurses, I told them where to get off as she had a really bad back and couldn't be sitting up all day. That was just the start of my troubles, which I wont go into at this time as there isn't enough Band-width.

On the Thursday night when we went to visit we were intercepted and asked to go to the Family Room where we would be contacted by a Doctor. We both (my son and I) sat there for one and three quarter hours and still no Doctor so I went on the hunt. It was then we were told she had been moved to ITU. When we got up there she was well out of conciousness and hooked up to drips and you name it, she had it stuck in her somewhere. A Doctor mentioned her Kidneys had failed.

On the Friday night no change. The Doctor said they were going to take her off the Aspirator on the Saturday and see if she could breath on her own. At this point I thought things were picking up a little. I also decided to phone my other Son Christopher in Ipswich. He drove up on the Saturday and stayed with my Brother and Sister-in-law at Washington for the night then came up to me on the Sunday. I warned him to prepare himself for a shock. When I went into the Hospital on the Saturday night they said they had tried to get her off the Aspirator but Angela was unable to breath on her own so they had to put her back on.

Sunday, Christopher and I went in to see her and we were directed to the Family room to wait for another Doctor. I knew it wasn't going to be good news so asked Christopher to phone our other Son and get him straight in. We waited till Anthony arrived and then had a meeting with the Doctor and were told she had deteriorated badly over Saturday night ans Sunday morning. Her Kidneys had totally closed down and it would take a miracle to save her. Me and my lads had a discussion and we were all agreed that I should give the order to switch off the life support.

And that my friends is the short of it.

She was it. It wont happen again for me.

First and last for me as well, Gandalph.

I've been with Nid for a little over 15 years. She truly is my muse and inspiration.

I fear the worse if anything were to happen to her. I will most probably revert to the "beast"-mode that I was in before I met her.

I do not look forward to a day without her. My sympathies, Brother.:sorry:

I lost my wife just over 4 years ago and can empathise with your pain. My deepest and most sincere condolences.

I have no doubt that it would be the wish of your late wife for you to treasure the fond memories of the past but look to the future. We are only on this planet once - and should make the most of it. I never expected to find happiness again - but it happened against all the odds. You just never know................
