andsome
Why does this forum now allow sites like face book to attempt to track visitors?
Irene
I didn't realise that they were. By the way, I have now downloaded the blocker which you displayed. Thanks! ;)
Belatucadrus
Firefox users may be interested in Ghostery which does much the same job.

ɹəuəllıʍ ʇɐb
I don't know about Facebook. My question is: where have you been all this time? We haven't seen you around here for years (or months?).
andsome
I don't know about Facebook. My question is: where have you been all this time? We haven't seen you around here for years (or months?).I got fed up with the excessive censorship stifling debate on non technical threads. The most ludicrous instance was when an American contributor, ( I think it was Bludgard), was ordered to watch his language when he used the term 'Dicks' to describe American cops, a term which is in common use both in the states and to a lesser extent in the UK. Another thing was constant personal sniping by someone who well knows who he is. I like a good argument, but have never got personally involved in slanging other people off.It is w(rong) to snipe at other people. We all have our own point of view. Belatucadrus
It is w(rong) to snipe at other people. We all have our own point of view. You can all have a point of view, just remember I'm definitively correct. Any discrepancies between reality and myself and reality is deemed to be at fault. With grovelling appologies to the late great Douglas Adams. Belatucadrus
I'm more correct than you are. That's an opinion, I am however factual and all but infalable.Except when it comes to spelling where I'm more inflatable.

AlanHo
things are getting back to normal then.Depends what you regard as normal.I tested the water 3 weeks ago by starting more than 20 threads in one day. I haven't checked lately but at the last count only 6 threads received any response and that was from a total of just 5 members. So is that normal? To be perfectly honest Alan, 20 threads in one day was slightly 'overkill' to follow.I suppose it depends how much time you have - rather more than I had at that particular time... sorry. andsome
Getting back to the original post. No explanation yet as to WHY this tracking of people is permitted.
Irene
I think your installed gadget tells you that it's internet wide. There are personal choice privacy options, such as yours: http://www.abine.com...dntdetail.php It certainly works well, and I thank you for it. Some sites allow as many as eleven companies to track you. So far since using this software over 35000 attempts have been stopped on my computer. Gandalph
It's a way for Advertisers to track your movements on the net to see where and what sites you visit so they can send you Spam for your Junk Folder for stuff you don't want to buy. P.S. to the above. On the Macintosh Computer we have an option to turn on Private Browsing so that sites we visit does not leave any information about us, and, that site cannot put cookies on our machines. Windows has in private browsing, but does not seem to be too effective. I am happier with the software that I have installed to prevent this intrusion. Gandalph
From what I have read it isn't the web site in particular that knows who is tracking who. The tracking is done through your ISP server.
