The idea that any animal could increase in size 4/5 00% to fit an ecological niche in only a few generations just seems more than a bit loopy.By this logic in the next century humans will suddenly shrink as there'll be a chronic lack of space due to population growth. I had a .22 BSA rifle and shot in the area a few miles west of Ripley( near Harrogate).One day after wandering round my normal route again, more or less fruitlessly, as I had done for a coule of weeks, I spotted a black cat jumping up onto the top of a wall. It looked rather larger than a normal cat even though I was a good 70 -80yds. away from it. It was certainly a "foreigner" in the area and so I gave it one.It shrieked and lept up in the air and fell the other side of the wall.When I got to it it was quite dead and was enormous for a domestic moggy. I took hold of the end of its tail and held it out at arm length. It took me all my strength to do that, and even when I held it as high as I could, with my arm well out above shoulder height, its nose still touched the floor. (I was six feet tall in those days).Its neck was so thick that when I placed my hands round its neck. with both thumbs touching, my index fingers would not meet.I am not sure what it was. It was certainly not just a farm cat that had gone feral. Further more, even though it had fed well on "my" rabbits for some weeks, it had not grown to that size on just a good diet. What I can't get my head around is a scientist that thinks that animals can suddenly become members of the mega fauna simply because an ecological opening exists. I'll believe in it getting their slowly via evolution. I just have problems with this scientist and his spontaneous change theory which seems to smack of "Intelligent design" AKA God did it.
