AlanHo Posted January 8, 2013 Report Share Posted January 8, 2013 As we move into year 2013 I believe it is appropriate for us to take time out and reflect on to where and how we want to take the forum forward into the future. Perhaps we need a more structured and integrated approach now that we have picked all the low hanging fruit, we need a robust and client centred strategic push to bring more value to the table and attract membership. I thought it right to raise this now and run the concept up the flagpole to see who salutes. Some thinking outside the box might be required here if we are to push the envelope and make a paradigm shift in the way we step up to the plate and raise the bar. Just putting lipstick on the pig is not enough in today’s competitive forum market, we need to architect a faster, leaner, user focussed approach – at the same time being careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Teamwork is the key to success in producing a scalable plan that will be the change agent in a highly competitive market place. With our team of administrators and moderators we are covered 24/7 – both on and offline. We are lean and mean and have the right ratio of chiefs and Indians who give 110% effort in their fervent quest to be the leading provider of technical, emotional, sociable and all-round support to our hungry membership. It’s a no brainer, if you take a helicopter view it is clear that we can bring on our ‘A’ game and take our client focussed service to a new level. We don’t need to reinvent the wheel – I am sure you can see where I’m coming from with this – it’s a no-brainer. We possess the perfect blend of technical skills and humour to put a large stake in the ground and provide an unassailable benchmark for our competitors. The bottom line is that we must expel the elephant in the room and take a proactive approach, now more than ever, to resonate with our readership so that we move up the value chain, cast a wider net and prove that the juice was worth the squeeze. Success is on our radar guys – we must each take a turn in the barrel, swim in each other’s wakes, walk in each other’s shoes and sing off the same song sheet to ensure that we dazzle them with brains and baffle them with B.S. Push last week’s tweet onto the back burner – now is the time for innovative thought and action - not empty cliches. We have the legs and can go really far. AlanHo Posted January 8, 2013 Author Report Share Posted January 8, 2013 What prompted me to write that drivel was an article by Jeremy Clarkson in the Sunday Times on 15th April 2007 when he bemoaned the gobbledygook spoken by people at large meetings he had to attend each week.He claimed that he and a co-conspirator had a competition to see how many song titles they could lob into the converstation without anyone noticing. His contribution was "Every breath you take is like an invisible sun. We are spirits of the material world, or as they say in France, Outlandos d'Amour". His colleague replied "We are on top of the world looking down on creation, and we are calling occupants of interplanetary craft".And no-one noticed.But seriously - the cliches indulged in by 'modern' managers are mind blowing. They seem to think it is mission critical to use blue sky thinking and be proactive, rather than reactive, and come up with ball park figures to substantiate the hybrid concepts borne from their existentialism. They think that they can incentivise the team by monetising the deliverables and concentrate attention on core competencies to ensure they don't drop the ball. As far as I can see the only flag that you are running up the pole is this one: Using your terminology, and about the only good advice I can give to you pal, - and it's one that you missed out. - Get your ducks in a row before you try to pull the wool over our members eyes matey !We've heard the rumours of a buy-out of Windows Forum by Everest Double Glazing so there is no need to try and smokescreen us against any ongoing shenanigans. Remember - I swallow razor blades for breakfast just to stay sharp pal.Just before you settle down cosy for the day in your centrally heated management office, you may just want to look at the front page here, and see that we are now running at over 17,500 members. I think you are going to be suprised at exactly how many replies you are going get now that I have raised an objection.Got that. Over Seventeen thousand five hundred members. I'm just going to sit back, wait for the posts to roll in, and watch you and the rest of management enjoy some heat over this latest outrage.Take a message back to the rest of management will you ?
