post your freeware finds here..... :)

I shall start the ball rolling I think

One problem with editing movies on your computer is that you often need a DVD burner to be able to store the finishedmovies in reasonable quality.

However, convert the finished files to DivX - a compressed, advanced format that most media players (and some new DVD players) can play - you can fit many hours worth of video footage onto a CD-ROM.

FlasK lets you do just that, and although it is still in beta phase it supports full MPEG1/MPEG2 video decoding, VCD/SVCD/DVD video transcoding and A52/MPEG audio decoding.

FlasK can be a little difficult to use if you're unfamiliar with video editing, but it's worthwhile if space is a problem for your PC.

What is The File Splitter?

The File Splitter is a free Windows program that will split any file into pieces of any size and later combine the pieces to form the original file. This could prove useful in a number of situations:

Suppose you need to transfer a file from one stand-alone computer to another. A floppy disk is often the only possible means for transferring the file, but if the file is larger than 1.44 megabytes, it won't fit on a single floppy. Simply split the file onto floppy disks, and then copy the pieces from the floppy disks to the other computer and easily reconstruct the original file.

Many email systems place a limit on the size of an email message. What if you want to email someone a file that is larger than the maximum size? Split the file into pieces smaller than the limit and email the individual pieces.

GNUWin II includes numerous programs, completely free, which cover a wide spectrum of uses. The complete application list, sorted by type, is available here.

The software included in GNUWin is not shareware nor freeware, but original free software and Open Source software, for which the source code is available, and that is and will always be free (free both as in "free speech", and as in "free beer").

Most programs included in this CD are also available for free and Open Source operating systems, such as GNU/Linux, BSD, etc.

http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/cookie.htm

Online privacy is a big deal these days, with huge companies being formed every month to both protect and exploit information gathered about you. By far the most common method used to track individuals on the Internet is the 'Cookie', a small file stored on your machine with information provided by a website... While the majority of the websites out there use this tool as it was intended, more and more are exploiting it in ways that were never intended - that's where AnalogX CookieWall comes in.

Real VNC

www.realvnc.com

How can I use VNC?

Remote control software such as VNC has a variety of uses. It allows a person at a remote computer to assume control of another computer across a network, as if they were sitting in front of the other computer.

For the individual user, one common scenario is using VNC to help troubleshoot the computer of a distant less-technically-savvy relative. In other words, sitting at your desk in Baltimore, you could use VNC to take control of your mother's PC in London and show her how to install and use some new software package by actually doing it yourself.

For the business user, VNC can be used to provide a flexible hot-desking and road-warrior environment by allowing employees to access their office desktop and server machines from any machine in the company's offices or from other remote sites, regardless of the type of computers involved at either end. An equally popular business application of VNC is in remote system administration, where VNC is used to allow administrators to take control of employee machines to diagnose and fix problems, or to access and administer server machines without making a trip to the console.

VNC can also be used in educational contexts, for example to allow a distributed group of students simultaneously to view a computer screen being manipulated by an instructor, or to allow the instructor to take control of the students' computers to provide assistance.

Of course, as these examples illustrate, the variety of uses of VNC is really as diverse as the number of VNC users, a number which is big and growing all the time!

--------

VNC differs from other remote display systems in three crucial ways:

It is fully cross-platform. A desktop running on a Linux machine may be displayed on a Windows PC, on a Solaris machine, or on any number of other architectures. There is a Java viewer so that any desktop can be viewed with any Java-capable browser. There is a Windows server, allowing you to view the desktop of a remote Windows machine on any of these platforms using exactly the same viewer. The simplicity of the protocol makes it easy to port to new platforms and other people have therefore ported VNC to a huge variety of platforms.

It is small and simple. The Windows viewer, for example, is about 150K in size and can be run directly from a floppy. The entire Java viewer is substantially less than 100K and takes less time to download than the images on some web pages.

It is free! You can download it, use it, and redistribute it under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

Well worth program!

Content Advisor Password Removal:

It sounds like a good idea - Internet Explorer has the ability to block unsavory sites. The problem is that what Microsoft thinks should be blocked may not always be the same as your view. In fact the whole issue of blocking sites gets very messy depending on your religious, political and social views.

On the other hand, Content Advisor is easy to activate - it only takes one or two clicks and a password. However, the biggest problem is that even if you want to just test it, Content Advisor will still demand a password. Since you are trying to test the program, you probably won't pay much attention what you enter. Then some time later you want to disable Content Advisor and it asks for the password. Now, can you remember it? If you are on this page, we are betting that you can't. Maybe it's not your fault - perhaps some curious child or novice played with the Content Advisor and now nobody knows anything about it. So what's the solution? What you need to do is delete the entry in the Windows Registry that stores the password.
