Gandalph
With Tony just announcing the date of the General Election on May 5th, which party do you think, (given the current climate of feelings toward the Government) will win.
madboy33
I think that the conservatives will win this time round. I hope Tony does not get in again as to be honest he has advised that he will hand the leadership over once they win. Therefore one would be voteing for a "faceless" governmentAlsoLabour are a party of throwing monies into a blackholeLook at the NHSEnough said

djohn
Labour will win without a doubt, and by quite a good margin. This doesn't mean I agree with everything they do, I don't - but it would take too much of a change of opinion to move them out of government, they have far too big a majority.

Sir Radfordin
Clearly the Lib Dems haven't done enough to win total control though I wouldn't be surprised to see them continue to build on their previous success. Not sure if I want to see another 4 years of Labour but then again am more sure I don't want to see Mr Howard as the PM. Just can't stand the guy...and dragging his family out in the way he did wasn't something I agreed with.It makes me wonder, if Labour had known they were going to be in power in 8 or 12 years time would they have done things differently? Personally I believe 4 years is too short to change things sufficiently to see the improvements. In Year 1 you are getting to grips with things, Year 2 and 3 you begin to sort it out only for year 4 to come and you start having to think how to present your best side for the next election. No business plans on a 4 year cycle in that way so is it wise to have government doing that?
deuces wild
I had always thought the folks of Britain, in general, to be conservative in their lives but liberal in their political views.Am I wrong?
Gandalph
There are some very interesting views coming out of this. I started the Poll really just to see how many voters would be bothered to vote on it, to see the outcome of the Poll and to see how it compares with the actual outcome of the election. Keep them coming if you wish but please don't start any war's. :D
deuces wild
Politicians are mostly scum. Who in their right mind would ever choose that field (politics) as a career? Most have never held a real job. Most are totally oblivious to the real world. Most could not tell you the price of a loaf of fricken bread! It is often hard to pick out the warm blooded ones from the bottom feeding swimmers.
Hurdy
The choices in the poll are very conservative. What about those who want to vote for Greens, Independant, Veritas or BNP for example?
andsome
In my opinion this statement is largely true. I am intending to vote Conservative, NOT as a vote to Howard, but because we do happen to have an exceptionally good constituency M.P. The labour party have let us down badly. Gordon Brown with his stealth taxes knocked 10% off the value of all pension funds in one fell swoop. The Lib Dems would hand over rule totally to Europe within weeks. -pops-
I think the whole of this stinks.Nobody in modern politics gives a fig for anyone except themselves. What happened to Statesmen and Statesmanship in which your political representative actually cared about important issues and how they affected the country and its population? All we have now are self-serving jobsworths intent on making as much personal (financial) gain from their position as they possibly can and even when that gravy train reaches the terminus, they are invariably offered extremely lucrative directorships, consultancies and other euphemistic terms for receiving huge amounts of money for doing very little (or nothing at all).It is only recently that I discovered who my MP is - and that's due to me having to look on the Internet to find out. I've never seen him, never known that he has visited his constituents (certainly never been anywhere near here) and, worst, not aware that he has made any contribution to the Parliamentary process whatsoever.A pox on the lot of them
andsome
Look how many have now got jobs in Brussels. Kinnock was totally anti Europe until offered a job as a commissioner at several hundred thousand a year. His missus also has a similar job. I remember when she came up with a stupid idea as to how to help children learn to read, The theory was that if you made lots of books available, they would teach themselves to read. This is the mentality of MANY of todays politicians.
The Grump
Gordon Brown with his stealth taxes knocked 10% off the value of all pension funds in one fell swoopHave you any evidence of this, or is it just Tory propaganda?
andsome
Gordon Brown with his stealth taxes knocked 10% off the value of all pension funds in one fell swoopHave you any evidence of this, or is it just Tory propaganda? He stopped the tax relief on investment profits of UK Pension Funds. This had the immediate effect of reducing their value by in the region of 10% overnight. THIS IS TRUE, and is NOT propaganda. He also removed the married couples allowance for over 65's. After much adverse publicity this was restored for those already 65, but affected those yet to reach that age. The end result of this in my case is that I pay several pounds per month more tax on my pension, than does my friend who is eighteen months older than me. djohn
Not wishing to pry in any way andsome, but if you pay tax on your pension doesn't this mean your receiving quite a good pension?I'm not sure of the pension rates, [state] or at what figure they attract income tax.Though I will be reaching that age in the near future, and I realise that if one has a private pension it will depend on how much you have contributed over the years.I can only relate to my Mother-in-law, now 80 years old, she feels she is better off to the sum of some £1,200 per year in pension, benefits, and winter fuel payments. edbanger
The end result of this in my case is that I pay several pounds per month more tax on my pension, than does my friend who is eighteen months older than me.Maybe thats because you get a larger pension. I've found that the OAP's who do the most moaning about tax are the ones with the most money.
andsome
I do indeed have some private pension, which I worked hard for and paid quite a bit of money for over the years. It just seems daft to me that on the one hand the government wants people to pay toward a private pension, in order to reduce the numbers claiming extra benefits, and on the other hand they tax pension fund profits. It is only out of pension fund profits that a pension can be paid.
