mark2
http://www.everestlabs.com/ A new free antispyware on the block.Still in beta but I have seen some reports one says a very nice little app it looks nice and scans fairly quickly.....It's very simple to useI have a largely unprotected testbox to test on.We'll see how it does. andsome
Looks good. You cannot have too much protection. Spybot S & D is getting to be a pain in the ass, so frequently the updates just will not download. I get fed up with seeing 'bad checksum'. andsome
Just running first scan in simple mode. I will then look at the advanced options.
andsome
First scan was OK. I have now configured the program in the advanced mode. It really does seem to be exceptionally easy to understand. If all goes well, Spybot S & D is in its last days for me.
andsome
Now run two scans in advanced, one was using Custom mode. It all seems very smooth and painless.
andsome
It has now started to shut down during a custom scan. I cannot be bothered with it if it is gooing to go wrong, so I have uninstalled it. It was worth a try.
-pops-
Is this a replacement to Spybot or is it another must-have in our armoury against the crap distributors?I am keen to try it but reluctant to give up on Spybot or AdAware or A squared or Spywareblaster or Spywareguard or - - - - -

It does have realtime protection a la MS antispy. I've only tried it on my XP test box (not a lot on it), 4-5 minutes for a scan. I'll have to do some more surfing, naked !!!! to andsome, I did warn it was still in beta, but I notice you've found their support forum

Spybot S & D is getting to be a pain in the ass, so frequently the updates just will not download. I get fed up with seeing 'bad checksum'. You seem to have more problems than anyone else with it andsome ????Never get any problems with updating it myself (but I'm not on NTL 2MB ! - only Wanadoo 512k)

andsome
I have now exchanged several e-mails with their technical people, and some glitches are being looked into at present. Meantime I am running the program in advanced mode, as it is Custom mode that causes problems.
mark2
Time for a bit of a report on Spydefense seeing it being mentioned elsewhere on the forum. In use on an XP SP2 box, no other antispyware, using ghostwall firewall, crapcleaner and AVG, used for simple surfing, email etc without taking any special precautions. As a test today I installed and ran Ewido on 2 of my Pcs NO Problems Found(or whatever the correct message ) :D My main PC has the full battery of security programs and I would expect that result, however I'm very impressed by the performance of Spydefense in it's default mode/settings. andsome
I find that Spy Defence runs perfectly in ADVANCED MODE. The problem mode is Custom mode. They are aware of the problem and think they have now found the reason. The mode causes no problem on the computer, it is just that the scan aborts itself. I have exchanged several e-mails with their staff, they seem to be extremely helpful. I am looking forward to the final version.
Tony
I am now giving this a try.I have just got rid off S&D as it has never found anything in the last year or so, since i have been running the MS Anti Spyware program. The same goes for AdAware SE but i have not uninstalled that, but i think i will.Is there any know problems running Spy defence & MS Anti spyware on the same system together, as they both run in the background they might have conflicts with each other, although all seems ok at the moment.Tony
rong
At this time I have SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard and have just (yesterday) put Spy Defence on. The first two run in the background. No problem this morning.

D4\/!d
There is a new version of this coming out next week and the updates should then re-commence. That'll be good - it seems to find more nasties than Ad-aware and Spybot put together :o
