-pops-
I tried to look at the online video but it was overloaded. More interest than the BBC could cope with.

doug
Kust watched it, fascinating. Is this a sign that the Thames really is getting cleaner. It really was filthy when I ( a Cockney) lived in London 'till 37 years ago!

They were attempting to get it to turn round and go back to the sea.

Sir T Fireball
The Thames has supported a thriving Salmon population since the 70's. I have an award in my shed that was presented to the then chairman of Thames Water by the leading dignatory of Hokkaido, Japan, to prove it  (true, it's a wooden, 5ft long hand carved Salmon with a shiny brass plate :P )I don't see how the whale has much chance of survival because of the sad end those porpoise suffered a few of years back. They found their way up river, but were trapped by the Thames Barrier and eventually died.
andsome
Heathen!!! :P Ever tasted whale? I never have. Tastes like a fat chicken. :DWe don't usually buy FAT chickens, we prefer just pleasantly plump ones.Welcome back Sir T Fireball, thought you were dead. :D
-pops-
Anyone here ever had shark steaks? :DYes. Shark was one of the "in" fancy foods of the '90s - together with swordfish and marlin (which is just a type of tuna).Remember also that "rock salmon", also known as dogfish or huss, is a type of small shark. I think that was whale meat.Thos. :)Yes, it was truely awful. A slice of Snoek and a helping of POM and it was possible to "throw up" for the war effort. I have a feeling that my mother bought our second lot thinking that the first lot was "a bit off". We never had a third lot!Slightly later there was the Snood. That was just as attractive!

catgate
And as tasty. Snood was a bit stringy, if I remember rightly.Thos. :PYes indeed. It was hair raising. We used to have stringy POM too. Me and a couple of pals used to go off camping, and used to take POM and dried eggs and such with us (well you could not buy anything "worthwhile" at little village shops because everything was rationed). The stringiness of our POM we eventually found out was connected with the amount of grass that we always seemed to get into the billy whilst "making it". It was the same with the dried egg omlettes. I suppose it was the overpowering taste of wood smoke that eventully led to my smoking cut twist in a pipe.
