AlanHo
In an interview with the BBC, Gary Glitter has denied being a paedophile and going to Vietnam for under-age sex. He claims that he went there for the sun and the geography. And here was me thinking he was a raving pervert - I must send him an apology - will somebody please remind me to remember not to forget. His story

Thos
What I would like to know is what is the BBC, funded by licence-payers, doing giving publicity to this obnoxious man. It gives credance to his case for repatriation.Thos.
AlanHo
What I would like to know is what is the BBC, funded by licence-payers, doing giving publicity to this obnoxious man. It gives credance to his case for repatriation.Thos.The BBC are in a no-win situation with this thorny problem. If they refuse to grant an interview to someone - they are accused of bias - and if they grant an interview they get similarly accused. The BBC used to have an enviable reputation for balanced journalism - expressing both sides in an impartial way to allow the listeners/viewers to draw their own conclusions. Recent events and governmental meddling have eroded this policy but they would do well to try and win it back.On the subject of repatriating Gary Glitter - I have no real objection. We already have plenty of scum bags in the country and one more will not make much difference. There might even be an argument that the more we get and the bigger problems thus caused - the more chance we have of a moral and anti-crime backlash that will force the government to really do something about it. Like sort out the liberal judicial system, ensure proper sentencing, make a 10 year sentence mean 10 years before parole, build more prisons, and make prisons a proper educational and reforming place rather than a drug infested holiday camp. catgate
build more prisonsWhy do we have a shortage of prison places when there are thousands of able bodied men locked up who could quarry the stone and build the buildings, at no cost to the public. In fact the whole of the prison population should be keeping itself, paying for guards and warders, and additionally contributing a positive balance sheet to the exchequer. CAN YOU HEAR ME GORDON??
