Shortage of women

We still have a huge shortage of women on here.

I am wondering if the wrong impression is given to any would-be female members.

The few of us who dare to voice an opinion are immediately 'shot down'. Now, whilst I know you lot don't really mean to be nasty, maybe the impression could be that you are all a bit anti- women??

A bit more 'sweetness' would be good..........what do you think?

Sugar lump, how could you feel so? No one ever shoots you down, (would we dare). No one is anti women, what on earth would we do without you all? Maybe most of the women are too busy in the kitchen to come on here. :P

Is this because there aren't as many women computer buffs as there are men and it is thus a reflection of the ratio of interest?

The majority of the people that visit here more than once (that is the ones interested in computers rather than having one specific problem) seem to be male, yes but matching that, go round your local computer supermarket and you will see that most of the potential customers are male (often with a bored partner). Ask the online suppliers of computer equipment (eBuyer, dabs , Novatech, etc.) and I'm sure they will tell your that their customer base is mainly male.

My thinking is that computers and related items such as games consoles are something of an extension of the "boys toys" for a lot of people. Women, on the other hand, often find computers as something of a drudge associated with office work and the intensely boring aspects of data input and suchlike.

On a more seedy aspect, you will find lots and lots more Internet porn aimed at a male audience than a female one. I don't think this is a lack of interest on the part of women, just that porn sites are there to make money and they produce the goods that do just that.

There is also the aspect of "hiding" behind a pseudonym. Your own moniker "artist" doesn't reveal anything about your gender and likewise could be the same with a lot of other members. It is only because we know you that we also know you are female. I recall when I used to visit another place that quite a few "neutral gender" member names were females and there was also one with a male name who was revealed at one point to be a woman.

Regarding your other comments, I know of only few, if any, women who couldn't support themselves very ably in any argument.

Whilst echoing the thoughts of others posted above I can see your point Artist.

I have recently made several postings that were mocking of males and intended to boost the female ego. Despite the cries of TRAITOR from certain quarters which hurt me deeply - I will continue to provide as much support as I can for the lovely females we have in our midst - few but much valued.

Perhaps we need to post more girly things to attract their interest.

I have recently made several postings that were mocking of males and intended to boost the female ego. Despite the cries of TRAITOR from certain quarters which hurt me deeply - I will continue to provide as much support as I can for the lovely females we have in our midst - few but much valued.

Perhaps we need to post more girly things to attract their interest.

Perhaps there is a lack of women here because women do 90% of the work that needs to be done and, therefore, don't have the time to spend chatting on forums. :P (gets ready to duck from the retorts to this comment :D )

I know that until I stopped working outside the home, I rarely got to use the computer.

Was that Bodi over at PCA pops? I remember one quite long topic when I kept referring to 'him' and suggested he got his wife to straighten out a bent pin on a processor. the reply was very funny as she explained her gender but for roughly 2 years I thought Bodi was a man.

I do realise that women are outnumbered in being interested in the computer - but surely to god there must be more than the six or whatever who come on this forum......I still think they get frightened off or don't think it's worth the effort of arguing with 'the few awkward men' on here.

I see quite a few - who I assume are female - on the 'other' forums. It's easy to see what gender in the details, which we assume are the truth in most cases.

I am quite willing to do my bit towards attracting more females onto the Forum - if only I knew what to do.

I guess most members find their way here either by recommendation - or when they have serious computer problems and they get googled here. I wonder if it would help if the forum set up a board just for the ladies - not sure what to call it - perhaps Ladies Lounge - or Coffee Corner. I feel if we could get some newcomers by this route they would naturally migrate into other sections in the forum and get accustomed to the banter.

On a lighter note - perhaps if andsome changed his avatar to something more pleasant like a tarantula or vampire it might not frighten so many ladies off.

I actually like the banter as it's usually funny and doesn't often get out-of-hand but you have a point there Alan, perhaps a few more handsome avatars might do the trick

I'll embarass him nd stick mine up hehe now onto the more serious buisness of why women arent on here. I have to agree that most of my female friends have no interest in computers apart from coming on msn and just randomly surfing the internet. My mum wouldnt know how to get started saying that not all women are thick to computers and computer talk so does that mean the women we have on wf are the crem de la crem of the world's computer literate women?? Would you really want the forum filled with bimno's and milly's or are you few women luvin the attention you get ;)
