I too thought he was a bit over the top but he did save a lot of creatures that might otherwise have been killed.Anyone who risks their life to save an animal is OK in my book. RIP Steve. From what I have read experienced divers know that you never swim over a stingray especially in close proximity as they can easily hit you.Apparently the barb was over 6 inches long, razor sharp and went right into his heart.His wife and children will do very well financially but that does not replace the loss of a husband and father.A real shame. I believe there are in the region of 200 medium to large and many more small charities/conservation areas he and his family are responsible for.Sad day and for someone like him to die the way he did is like a mountaineer falling off the pavement and killing himself. Whatever your views on the way he presented his shows, he did engage a large amount of people to take an interest in wildlife with a major proportion of these being children. I didn't watch all his shows by any means but saw quite a few on TV, didn't agree with his presentation either but he made me sit up and look on quite a few occasions enough for me to use the internet to gain more information on the species of wildlife that had just been on his show. I do feel sorry for the children, but, then again the eldest was/is about to present a programme on wild life, probably in the same vein. There are, thankfully, only a few presenters who treat animals the way he did, it is absolutely unnecessary to do it and if they take the risks they surely will make a fatal mistake eventually.I can't remember seeing/reading about any breeding programmes for endangered species or any attempts to protect the habitat of any animals, and I fail to see how goading and teasing wild animals can, in the slightest, be construed as conservation. As deuces wild has said he was not following recognised procedure, what did he expect?Just to add, I also haven't seen/read of him dealing with non dangerous animals and if they are going to show the actual programme will it be un-edited? also his wife and children do not need any money from it. His job was to basically inform people about animals so that they do not misunderstand them or try to hurt them. He did so much for the conservation of nature it is truley commendable. His job was dangerous but the way he did it was amazing. I feel sorry for his family as truley no amount of money can replace a loved one.
