My first experience of curry was Heinz canned Mulligatawny soup, just after the war (WW2, not the Boer war as some might think).

I thought it very good at the time and really exotic but I dread to think what my opinion of it would be now.

Couldn't you get it during the Boer war?

Home made soups.. They are the best.

I make them from all sorts of things. Whenever the local supermarket has a glut of any vegetable, I buy a quantity, make soup with it, then freeze it. Great with a chunk of fresh crusty bread.

In fact I bought a huge box of tomatoes from the Cash & Carry just a week or so ago, when they were overstocked. I've made quantities of soup, fresh tomato sauce for pasta and I've still got some left!! :D

Lovely rich taste you never get with tins.

Yes it's a funny thing about bought food. The people who "do" it are called processors, but should really be called adulteraters, because their main mission in life seems to be the addition of copious quantities of pepper and diluants (mainly stiffened water).
