I don't need to tell you why and how practical it would be.Are there any other coin or note denominations I should include in the petition whilst I am at it....? I think a 49 or 99 cent would be a good idea, but when something costs 5.99, by the time you add tax (6.89) its not very useful. Perhaps it is different across the pond? Any tax is included in the selling price so we tend to offer £6 and get 1p change. These 1ps mount up and make a great hole in one's pocket (or clog up one's purse) and no-one wants them.This only applies when using cash of course....which not many do these days I favour a move back to bartering. I seem to remember reading recently that there are draconian penalties for smelting them for the base metal. Given the price of metals these days. All shops in the UK show V.A.T. inclusive prices. So if a price is shown as £4.99 that is the total price including tax. V.A.T is Value added tax. The prices are shown like this because companies feel that psychologically we are daft enough to think that £5.99 is about a pound cheaper than £6 would appear to be. :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
doug Posted November 10, 2007 Report Share Posted November 10, 2007 I can remember the time when petrol was 99.9p/litre - 3 days ago - was getting a bit low and had a 5p/litre off from Tesco so called into a garage that was advertising 99.9p/litre.
