I know it's an old utility but I still use Drive Image 7 and I know that it doesn't take that long as I've done it the one time.I simply replace the faulty drive with a new one and copy everything over and it only takes just over an hour. He makes a very valid post on the 27th of this month applauding pops for Acronis- ising us all - and poof - his hard disk dies and it is taking him ages to restore it.Click hereIt's Ok for us lot to stand back and take the micky - but it is no fun when disaster strikes - especially when you are old and set in your ways. I wish you well in your battle with adversity andsome - I am sure you will not allow yourself to be hurt by the uncaring comments you are getting here. rong Posted March 29, 2008 Report Share Posted March 29, 2008 Well I was going to bite the bullet and get Acronis 11 as certain persons keep saying how good it is, but will be thinking hard about it now as it has never worked for me and after the No 2 advocate is obviously having problems with it. andsome Posted March 31, 2008 Report Share Posted March 31, 2008 I hit a snag with Acronis. My old hard drive was 80GB, the same as my plug in USB drive, on which the mirror image was stored. After formatting my new 160GB hard drive, I installed the mirror image. I then found that my new drive was only showing as 80GB. Further investigation showed that I had 80GB of unallocated space. I did not want to have a separate partition, so the only thing that I could think of was to reinstall Windows. I found that on entering setup, there were two partitions of 80GB each, so I deleted both and then formatted the resulting 160 GB single partition and reinstalled Windows. If no one can offer a solution as to how to prevent this kind of thing happening in future, I won't be using Acronis in future, instead I will use my plug in drive to store all my favourite programs to facilitate quicker installation of them in future. :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
rong Posted March 31, 2008 Report Share Posted March 31, 2008 I don't know how to do it in windows but with Partition Magic you would have been able to allocate the free space to your C partition do a new backup and I take it the next time Acronis should recognise the larger space, I think. doug Posted March 31, 2008 Report Share Posted March 31, 2008 I had that problem andsome when I tried to copy my old C drive to a newer larger one. I had chosen the wrong option in Acronis to restore and finished up doing an exact copy. Finished deleting the partitions on the new HD and the restoring the files only and that worked!
