B) Having driven 'sensible' vehicles all of my life, I really fancied something with a bit of panache, before I get to old to enjoy it!! She's three years older than my Fiesta Ghia, but a dream to drive.SLK 320K automatic...I know that the economy will not be there, but I don't do many miles - 2 to 3k per year.So, I now have a Ford Fiesta Ghia 1.4 for sale... First registered in January 2004, 53 reg plate. Very low mileage - 13,800. Just be prepared to ignore flocks of sour faced Prius driving greenies who will shake their heads, tutting furiously mumbling planet killer as you drive past. He sat on my bumper whilst I gently negotiated a bend (where he could easily have overtaken), then I left him sitting at what looked like a standstill, when the road was safe to briefly increase my speed. My last three cars have been Mercs and each one has been more like an ordinary car, each with lower build quality than it's predecessor. That having been said they are still a very nice car, but I shall certainly not have another one. They are very much overpriced for what you get. They make a very nice civilised motorcar. But the tie up with Chrysler seemed to change the company "ethos", and just as Jaguar and Aston Martin's association with Ford spoiled them, so with MB, in my opinion.Again it is my opinion, reached after odd discussions over a few years with others, including my friend who has the garage in the next village. but I think the slow slide started about the time the 190s were phased out. Managements brother bought a new CL Coupe about three years ago. He was in Germany with it when the "sunshine roof" thing started rattling and would not operate. He was not to far from Stuttgart so he took it to the factory. They mended it and sent him on his way. As he was travelling up the M1 on his way home it started rattling..again. In an article which I recently saw, written in 2005, Jeremy C. said "Mercedes says it’s cut its profits from £3 billion to £1 billion a year in a drive to improve quality. But I fear it may have to cut them still further. So what will my next choice be?.....I wish I knew. Currently I have an auto turbo diesel estate, and whilst it is a joy to drive, a veritable magic carpet, the fuel consumption is not very economical, but what to change it for is a problem.
