andsome Posted November 26, 2008 Report Share Posted November 26, 2008 Hope that you have a good time. We have very much enjoyed Warner's in the past, the facilities are excellent and so is the food. We have stopped going now as we are not at all keen on the evening shows these days. A tribute to madness finished it off for us, it was absolutely awful, juts totally deafening , mindless noise. AlanHo Posted November 29, 2008 Author Report Share Posted November 29, 2008 I am back home again after our stay at a Warners Hotel.Our experience may not be typical because it was the Turkey and Tinsel week - but we were not all that impressed. The reception area was being decorated and you had to wend your way past scaffolding to get through reception, up the staircase and along the main passageway. I appreciate that they need to spend time decorating - but it would have been nice to have been advised in advance so we were not so taken aback. This kind of set you in the wrong frame of mind from the start.The room was nicely done and very spacious - but the effect was spoiled by the duvet cover having more wrinkles than me (having not been ironed) and the bathroom extractor fan intake was heavily coated in thick dust. You need to take your own bathroom shampoo etc - none was provided.The food was quite good - but a very restricted menu especially the second day when the only main course was roast beef - no other choice. The restaurant had a cafeteria ambiance with a regimented table layout and no tablecloths. You had to order drinks in advance at the bar which were on your table at the appointed dinner time. Too little time was allowed between serving dinner and the start of the so-called "entertainment" for a leisurely meal. On the first evening most of the entertainment time was sequence and line dancing on a small dance floor which seemed populated by a couple of geriatric coach parties. We were surprised to find that they served coffee after dinner - horlicks or cocoa might have been more appropriate.However - the lack of youngsters was welcome - as was the dispensing of anti bacterial gel on all guests hands as you entered the dining room. Some of our friends wax lyrical about Warners and have had lovely times there - hence we will possibly give it another chance - but not during a "themed" week methinks. Alan2273 Posted November 29, 2008 Report Share Posted November 29, 2008 I am suprised at your comments Alan, we went to Alvaston hall in May and were pleased with it, (although it was not a themed one).There was plenty of menu choice for the main meal and clean tablecloths were on the tables every meal.I have to agree with andsome about the quality of the entertainment not being the best.But that is the only Warners we have been to that uses the dining room for the entertaiment, but at least you have an allocated table.Try Holme Lacy, that is the best one that we have found, after trying about 5 different Warners hotels. We have never been to a place where the entertainment was in the restaurant. By far the best Warner's that we have visited was Cricket St Thomas. It is near to Taunton. They say it's very good.We were on a caravan site just around the corner from there on a little site that had a small business making and selling summer baskets. There is a nearby very narrow lane, where several street lights have packed up over the years. The residents have been complaining bitterly of course, and the local press took up the cudgels. The explanation by the local council is that modern elf and safe t grounds will not allow someone to climb up a ladder to replace the broken bulbs, and the street is too narrow to get one of those trucks with a hydraulic platform down there. AlanHo Posted January 9, 2009 Author Report Share Posted January 9, 2009 In the interests of balanced reporting I must say that Warners have redeemed themselves.We already booked for a stay at their Holme Lacy hotel (got back home today) before the Alvaston adventure. After complaining about our experience at Alvaston they compensated our disappointment by upgrading us to a suite at Holme Lacy which was absolutely superb - as was the food and the general ambiance of the hotel.
