The things they wanted paying for was the BT Vault, on-line storage facility. When they told their customers that the Vault was coming they said it would be free to existing BT customers. Then when it arrived they gave us 50 MB and anything over the top of that had to be paid for. You can't store much on that sort of space. We had an offer in from Virgin yesterday for their Broadband, and by the time I had worked out and added up their charges I decided I'll stick with BT. :D Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I'm paying for "up to 8Mb" with BT. Broadband has always been a bit experimental on this exchange - I think this started because the then chairman of BT used to live down the road and we seem to get a lot of this development work coming through the wires.This high speed most likely won't last through the day but it does show what is possible down these old copper wires, despite what is claimed to the contrary. Before we took this package we spent about £30 per month on calls alone, plus the line rental. Free telephone calls any time with the broadband phone. Free calls after 18:00 to 08:00 each night on main line. Free calls 18:00 Friday to 08:00 Monday on main line. Unlimited downloads (Uncapped download) each month. The most per quarter our calls have ever been is £4.90. Free BT Vault backup facility up to 100 Mb, never used it though. Lifetime guarantee on router, free one if anything goes wrong with this one. (I Know, also available with some other ISP's). Free upgrade to Fibre Optics in the Autumn. On the Telly side I have got Freesat via Satellite and Freeview via cable so not missing many if any channels.I'm pretty sure I've missed a couple of things. But I've seen a few times that they like to change their prices around not just for line rentals, T.V and everything else.What's the bet that email wasn't from Richard Branson!heh. The only reason people had to install it was if they needed a browser or stupid stuff like Yahoo Messenger, Router Manager (Which is available on-line anyway), and things like Speed Test, again available on-line. With the router I have I can have up to three machines connected at once . Two by Ethernet and one by USB. I understand that nowadays Virgin broadband is supplied with a free wireless modem/router enabling 10 wireless peripherals to be connected. In any case I have only one pair of hands and can therefore only operate one computer at a time.
