catgate
Well...I suppose someone has to go to Weston-super-mere.Do you get indulgences for going?Do have a happy time and do ensure death from boredom does not supervene.
andsome
Have a good time. With a bit of luck the tide might come in and you can see the sea.
Irene
Many years ago (during the 70's), I lived in the Mendip Hills and visited Weston-Super-Mere locally...I must admit that I have never had the urge to revisit.
Gandalph
I'd sooner go to Mablethorpe.
Belatucadrus
When considerably younger I used to be taken to see my Great Aunt Elsie in Weston every year, not been for a looooooong time, must prime the jalopy some time and relive that part of my misspent youth. Tankus
Always reminded me of the 70's ...far more interesting if you head for the Cheddar , don't forget the scrumpy and your camera
artist
It wasn't a great week weatherwise - nor all round, come to think of it.The caravan site was like a carpark - new tarmac so couldn't put up the awning. It had a wall at the back and a housing estate across the (fairly busy) road. we were on a flight path for the planes from Bristol as well. Got to be one of the worst we ever stayed at.The whole of the sea front had road works - they were extending the promenade, I think. Never saw the sea at all. I pondered about where all that water had gone and why it never seems to come back. Was it over the way in Wales? Does the land under the sea slope and so make it difficult for the water to come back? Is there a big hole somewhere? Very odd.We had just one beautiful day (marred only by an arguement over nothing) so here are a few pics.

The pics are great though - especially the right hand one in your first post. I have never been to Weston but I have a couple of old friends - in both senses of the word "old" - who go 2 or three times a year by coach and stay at the Ocean Hotel which seems to specialise in wrinklies from the West Midlands. The hotel must have some sort of menagerie because my friends tell me they enjoy the lion dancin'.Your post to my Thought for Today amused me in relation to your comment highlighted above.................. Tankus
There's a 35ft tidal race ....artist ...you can walk out for miles on some estuaries on the Welsh side ....not advisable though if your a tourist and don't know the banks ...Nice piccies I used to get amazed going to the Med or places like Bournemouth where the water never seemed to move at all ? ...and you could walk of the beach and there would be no 15ft sea wall ... Tankus
heres a piccie from the other side ...Loughor estuary , with the back of the Gower in the distance ........ bit of a walk if you have a death wish ..pictures a bit dull but I'm amazed I got a result ...taken on an overcast day through the dirty double glazing of an accelerating great western train on the way to Carmarthen last week ..... catgate
It is sad to have that sort of disappointment, Artist. One sometimes comes away feeling very let down. However, there is at least a sort of sadistic satisfaction in going to somewhere like Weston, in that you come away knowing of yet another place you will studiously avoid in future....like Bradford or Accrington. Gandalph
Accrington I definitely agree with, It's quite a while since I was last in Bradford though but that was just the Town Centre and didn't look so bad at that time.

Can't win 'em all - though I did point out it was HIS choice. :P The owner came to say goodbye and said he hoped to see us again. Roy, always polite said the appropriate thing whilst I was in the van muttering '..even if it was the only site left, I'd rather be in my own front garden...'
