trackrat
Regardless of your political leanings, the labour party won.I myself did not vote for Tony Blair as I consider him to have got as arrogant as Maggie Thatcher did after all her years in power. All that has been said in this thread can have two meanings, depending on your political views.I personally think a lot of people will regret voting the Labour party back in but only time will tell. andsome
........ surely you cannot condone what the Republicans did a few years ago when they fiddled the Florida elections......... :D It was the Democrats who *fiddled* andsome...you seem to have your story wrong. Bias? :D Hanging chads.....folks who in previous years had no problem reading a ballot all of a sudden had a problem. Recount, after recount, after recount, after recount, after recount showed Bush won. Recounts by other independant sources 2 years after that election showed Bush won Florida and thus the election. That period of time tore the country apart. Learn from our mistake and let it go.You have failed to acknowledge the thousands of black people who were disenfranchised, or don't they matter. How much of the true story was censored by the Republican press in America? We saw the whole thing unfold on UK television. The republicans objected to the recounts, and tried every legal and illegal means to stop them. As I have said, I have acknowledged that Cheesy won. 36% of the electorate actually voted for him. With a smaller majority, he will now be forced to lead a far less presidential style of government.

deuces wild
You have failed to acknowledge the thousands of black people who were disenfranchised,.......... Please show me proof that your statement is accurate. A reliable source such as CNN or Reuters would do. ;) We saw the whole thing unfold on UK television. The republicans objected to the recounts, and tried every legal and illegal means to stop them. They may have objected but the recounts proceeded. As did the re-recounts. As did the re-re-recounts. As did the re-re-re-recounts. In each and every case Bush won. :D Unfortunately our lower courts tried to redo the constitution. Our supreme court took care of that. :P I think you have been brainwashed by the liberal media andsome. :rolleyes:Edit: How about we focus back on your election. That is what this thread is about afterall. :D
andsome
It is a little late in the day now to be producing proof. There are quite a few conflicting reports on the INTERNET. Some favouring Bush and some favouring Gore. Had Bush's relatives not done their best to thwart a full recount, then the result may well have been different. deuces wild
the legal challenges ..I meant were over the legality of our involvement in IraqSo I see:Blair could be forced to step downEarlier Friday, Blair acknowledged the Iraq war was “a deeply divisive issue” that hurt his Labour Party, but he said Britons were ready to “move on” and focus on the future.Blair weathered a backlash from voters in Thursday’s election, although Labour’s majority in the House of Commons was reduced significantly to about 60 seats instead of the previous 161. That could weaken Blair’s mandate and force him to step down earlier than planned during his five-year term.“I know that Iraq has been a deeply divisive issue in this country. ... But I also know and believe that after this election people want to move on, they want to focus on the future — in Iraq and here,” Blair said outside his office after returning from Buckingham Palace, where Queen Elizabeth II confirmed his victory.President Bush, who left Friday for a five-day, four-country tour of central and eastern Europe, called Blair from Air Force One to congratulate him on his re-election, said White House spokeswoman Corry Schiermeyer. In a sign of the strength of the anti-war sentiment, one of Blair’s harshest critics was re-elected to Parliament.“Mr. Blair, this is for Iraq,” said anti-war activist George Galloway, who was expelled from Labour after urging British soldiers not to fight in Iraq. “All the people you killed, all the lies you told, have come back to haunt you.“And the best thing the Labour Party could do is sack you.”http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/7706165/So how can he be forced to step down legally? Would an impeachment process be launched? If so, by whom?

andsome
I can remember the last Tory Government :angry:I too remember the last Tory government. They introduced PEPS, to help people to save a tax free nest egg for their retirement. Hospitals were cleaner, the police spent more time on the beat. What do we have now? Peps removed and replaced with less valuable ISAS. Tax now payable on pension plans, and then Brown has the gall to complain that people are not saving for their retirement. When the Tory government had bad news it was given during the budget debate. What does Brown do? He mentions at the end of the speech that further minor measures can be seen in the paper in the commons library. This is how he has introduced over 60 stealth taxes. Did you know that road tax has again increased? This was not in the budget speech. Millions have been pumped into the police, with more police than ever, however they spend more time than ever doing paperwork inside the police station. Billions has been pumped into the NHS with staff spending more and more time on reaching targets and doing paperwork. The NHS now has more managers than ever before. Wards are closing, we have lost several locally, and two perfectly good hospitals are being closed, and replaced with a smaller one. Wards are getting dirtier, and more people are entering hospital to have one complaint attended to, and are leaving with more illnesses contracted while they were in there. Oh yes. I well remember the last Tory government, how I wish we could roll back the clock. Why do you think that when Labour first came to power, they left most of the latter Tory measures in place for the first couple of years? Because they knew that they were on a winner, having inherited a rapidly improving economy. Just wait and see what brown and Cheesy have in store for us before you crow too much. Are you both trying to tell me that Blair is a picture of honesty? Are you really convinced that after eight years of Blair, and countless billions more poured into the NHS that the hospitals are cleaner? Are you convinced that none of this extra money is being spent on more and more managers, and chasing meaningless targets? Are you convinced that all the extra police are on the beat and not indoors doing paperwork. Calling people who care 'whingers' and other names does not enhance your argument. I have provided you with facts in favour of my argument, provide me with facts in favour of yours. Becoming abusive does not help your argument one little bit. You have NOT given one shred of evidence to refute the FACTS that I set out in my last post. These are FACTS not rhetoric.
Intratech
I'm convinced that politicians setting targets for medical staff to attain is not the best way to ensure that patients get the best threatment and to maintain a clean working environment. It's the same thing that people complain about all over, politicians are not doctors or other medical staff so they should stop messing around with something that they have no intimate knowledge of. Robbers Dog
These are FACTS not rhetoric.Labour 356 Tories 197. These ARE facts. No matter what you care to post as facts, the result is still a defeat for the Tories. The electorate did not believe that Howard or the Tories should run this country for the next 5 years.
