Craig Posted January 19, 2006 Report Share Posted January 19, 2006 In light of recent events, I have decided to make the decision to cancel the contract we have with the current hosting provider for our dedicated server.Although technical support is good behind the scenes (something you don’t see as members), at the end of the day downtime results in problems for me both behind the scenes and here at Windows Forum, and also causes inconvenience to members, volunteer staff, and more importantly those people seeking help.Our current server is USA based, and is unmanaged, so all updates, configurations are done by myself, something which I am still a novice at.I have managed to strike a deal with a hosting provider who will provide me a managed server, and best of all he does servers in both the USA and UK.What I have decided to go for is a UK based server, but this will not make any difference to USA visitors, well a few hundredths of a millisecond at most. The best bit is the server specification:Opteron 1441GB RAM1x 160GB HDDRemote FTP Backup1000GB BandwidthCurrently I anticipate that the transfer itself will take place over the weekend of 4th / 5th February, at which point Windows Forum will be unavailable for around 24 hours, but that is pretty much it.I will confirm more details as and when they become available. Craig Posted January 29, 2006 Author Report Share Posted January 29, 2006 Well we have made it to the new server, and were online offline for an hour or so.The DNS has been updated and successfully pointing to the new server, so we just need the World Wide Web to play catch up to reflect the changes.While we wait for the WWW, the IP address will remain present in the address until everyone can access the forum via the usual domain name.Craig Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
