Our own pub at last

I would suggest that you include an "I hate America" room in this pub of yours. Hang the US flag (or the pictue of any US Conservative including GWB) on any wall, provide plenty of shotguns and let the members here shoot away. This already happens here daily and on a regular basis.

Bang......bang................

Please...........carry on.

I'm afraid it wouldn't work. No-one would bother to go into the room. It's more fun using this forum to vent your feelings and stir up those who try to defend the indefensible...... ;)

To recap then:

Our pub will be an olde worlde, wattle & daub building with bottle glass window and a heavy, creaky, elm door. It has a river running alonside with a nice little walkway. At the rear there is a crown bowling green (for Andsome - though why he should have preferential treatment, I don't know....) There is also a patio which will have the lovely wooden furnature that Sapins is making.

Inside is warm and cosy with black and red upholstered bench seats and some oak wonky-legged chairs. There's a large inglenook fireplace with a blazing log fire. Toasting forks hang on the side for toast or crumpets. There's horse brasses hanging there too - because I like them. A Red Setter dozes the time away - keeping one eye open in case the cat comes near.

On another wall over the skittle alley is a well used dart board. There' a spitton in that area too and others in various places near the bar.

The tables have beer mats with Doug's logo on them. There's a box of dominoes on one donated by a kind patron.

Over the bar is a large brass bell for calling 'Time' There are adverts around the bar for 'Real Ale' ' Gut Rot' and others. (Non- alcoholic not allowed in this bar)

The publican's wife (no name as yet) will have a large gouty nose and a florid complexion and a voice like a fog horn.

Alan will be the landlord and has promised not to lech after the barmaid.

I will be a barmaid and do most of the cooking, for which I expect to be paid handsomely!

Thos will get together a cricket team - hopefully this will keep him too busy to have those lecherous thoughts. He needs some controlling.......

No bookies runner as yet.

Food suggestions are - sausages, scotch eggs, pickles, pork scratchings, crisps with salt in blue paper, cheddar cheese, chunky fresh bread and deep yorkshire puddings filled with beef and gravy. Maybe a veggie option?

Few names suggested:

Surfers Paradise

Digital Dreams

Virtual Reality

Surfers Retreat

Artist - what a super summary - so well expressed I can actually visualise the pub in all its glory. You forgot to mention your paintings and wall murals that are such a unique feature.

You should change your avatar to celebrate your promotion to barmaid and cook - the present avatar has lasted longer than most.

I am sure that given time you will be paid andsomely.

That red setter worries me though - they have a terrible reputation for humping barmaids legs. You misunderstood why the sly bugger is keeping one eye open. Perhaps we should have a datschund instead - they are not able to climb up a step when they get excited.

One thing we must insist on - there will be no games machines or juke boxes in the pub, neither will there be any "bubble gum" dispensers in the gents toilets. Smoking is definitely banned.

DW wanted us to have the spare room decorated with pictures of Bush or the US flag for our forum fundamentalists to take pot shots at. He clearly does not understand that unlike America - the average Brit does not swagger around armed to the teeth - we have laws against it. Hence the spare room is available as a gents only snug complete with snooker table and a computer terminal tucked out of the way in the corner so members can access the forum and "communicate" with our distant friends and foes.

Perhaps someone will set up a poll to let everyone vote on a suitable name - for me The Drag'n Drop Inn appeals.

One more thing - can we have some decent crockery and polished cutlery for the bar food with knives sharp enough to cut the food. It puts me off my food when it is served on chipped plates and the cutlery is mangled, dull and past its prime.

I suppose we will have a fixed printed menu plus specials chalked in copper plate handwriting on a blackboard at the end of the dining area. We should offer a big discount on both food and drinks for Forum subscribers.

   Chipped plates will add to the atmosphere - with me in the kitchen it won't be long before they're chipped anyway (ask hubby  )

are you supplying the bouncers?

Addressed to Artist?

:D :D :D

Thos.

See - one track mind!! :P

What's pops going to drink, as you have specified no non-alcoholic drinks? and are you supplying the bouncers?

You need to have a chat with Artist - she kindly volunteered to do the catering and barkeeping. Actually - it is a long time since I saw a ploughmans lunch on offer in a pub. Pub grub today tends to be more "sophisticated" nowadays with various ethnic offerings as well as steak and ale pie, fish & chips etc. For all I know, current legislation may make it obligatory to cater for all tastes in case we get accused of racial bias. Which reminds me - we need to stock some non alcoholic beer and fruit juices.
