Irene
We would like to have an anniversary holiday break during the last week of July and maybe beyond. The problem is, that we don't like too much heat. I don't like too much rain or cold wind!We like to be near to water - lakes, rivers, seas etc.Any suggestions??

(Your safe, he recently went to live in Australia and annoy the kangeroos.)
Gandalph
Just stay at home, you will get a mixture of the lot and it wont cost you a penny.
artist
Isle of Wight. Each to their own - not a lot to do on there, we find. What's wrong with beautiful Scotland or north Wales? Weather will be chancey but you'd be unlucky if it rained EVERY day.
Watchful
Just seen your hot-spot holiday pics so you'll be ready for the Lake District now and a spot of walking?
andsome
If you go to the Lakes, keep away from the more touristy areas. A drive along the whole length of the Kirkstone pass is gorgeous. For a real wild drive go all the way along Buttermere fell and Honister pass. Do this on a bad weather day if possible, it is really wild. You can visit the working slate quarry and the shop, with all sorts of slate goods to look at and buy. :D
AlanHo
Some friends went to Centre Parks near Nottingham two years ago to celebrate their 25th anniversary. They had a wonderful time.View here

Newlands and Honister (each so different) are fabulous in all weathers. The roads are steep by car or on a cycle but it's a fantastic hair-raising ride. I love it. Irene
Just seen your hot-spot holiday pics so you'll be ready for the Lake District now and a spot of walking?Boating is a very energetic hobby. Particularly with a craft of that size.Lots of up an down steps (three levels on that one). Tending to fenders, ropes and securing everything. Hosing down the decks after a trip.... There is always something to do. It's not advisable to move around the decks when in transit... Could end up with a 'man overboard' :

Irene
Some friends went to Centre Parks near Nottingham two years ago to celebrate their 25th anniversary. They had a wonderful time.It looks lovely, Alan. The only problem I would anticipate at the end of July, would be the volume of children. Sweet little angels as they are, I am more inclined to adult company these days. ;)
Watchful
I've never fancied boating. Prefer terra firma :D
-pops-
Easy Jet down to Nice, hire a car and set off into the mountains (Alpes Maritimes). Loads of small villages with tiny hotels/farmhouses/places to stay. Even more excellent eateries (from haute cuisine to peasant food). Food and wine is of the region and there is a strong Italian influence with some extremely unusual local specialitiesStay away from touristy areas and it's not at all expensive. Up in the mountains it is a good temperature, very dry and very sunny - there might even still be remains of the winter snow.
doug
We are passing through that neck of the woods in 4 weeks time. I can endorse pops comments.
andsome
While I agree that foreign places are great, it's surprising how many people have seen more of foreign countries than they have of this country. Since 'Er Indoors went off the idea of flying abroad, we have seen some beautiful places on our own doorstep. I still recommend the English Lake district. Not a large hotel, but a nice comfy B and B or small guest house, where you can get the personal home touch. :D

We paid the extra for the 'Priority' call, but it was still like being at a cattle market. I must admit that I prefer to select my seat before I travel. Admittedly, it does cost more though. I'll have a look at your suggestion....Thanks
Irene
Thanks for the photos, catgate. The IoM does look interesting. If there were to be a reasonable weather forecast, it would be even more so. B)

If there were to be a reasonable weather forecast, it would be even more so. B)We found that quite often if it was wet down in the south of the island it was the opposite up north, and so, bearing in mind the size of the island, it was only a matter of twenty minutes or so and you could drive into sunshine. The only down side is the exorbitant price the the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company charge for a crossing. They have the Manx people firmly graped by the testicles.
-pops-
You could go BA if Easy Jet doesn't appeal. When I worked down there it was always BA as Easy Jet wasn't invented then.Avoid Air France if possible!!!
