  1. I think my Outlook offline files have encountered some errors and I cant access them anymore. Does anybody know how to retrieve them back??
  2. I have a new Western Digital external hard disk, which be with me like 2 months. Well, here's the problem, when i tried to open the content, my computer cannot read the external hard disk. Then i waited for several minutes, it does appear on my my computer section, but it does not shows what it suppose to show (like the hard disk capacity meter and the name of the hard disk). All it tell is 'CD Drive (G:)', and when i double click on it, it tells 'application not found'. I have check it on device manager, it shown over there, but like what i said, i cant open it no matter what. I run auto play, also does nothing. Also i google most of the solution tell me to use Disk Management, which they give solution to change the drive letter, i done it, but still effect nothing. It still the same. I've tried on others computer, failed. I change the usb chord, including the usb booster, failed. The disk inside the device are still running/spinning, and most of WD hard disk have the tiny LED light that indicates its working if it blink so much, but for my problem, the LED light just flashing still motionless. Any solution for this other than formating it, because i cant format it as well! Please help, there's a lot of important task and assignment in there that i need to get it back. Please reply ASAP...thanks

Please can someone explain in simple terms how I can fix this, haha thanks :)
  4. I installed a fresh copy of Ubuntu 14.04 & Windows 8.1 just Yesterday. Now in Windows 8 There is a pecular problem. Whenever i interact with any object on the screen, the computer freezes, for about 30-40 secs. This happens almost all the time say 5-6 times in 10 minutes. The reason behind this was that DISK ACTIVE TIME which is shown by Task Manager spikes up to 100% & stays there for about a minute or so. But in Ubuntu, none of these things happen I can use Ubuntu Lag free comfortably The same thing used to happen with my previous Drive, so i got it replaced from WD, but even after replacing same issue still persists. Pls someone help. My System Config : AMD Phenom X6 1055T 2.8GHz Gigabyte 880GM-UD2h Kingston 4GB DDR3 HyperX WD Black 1TB
  5. I have a Samsung Ultrabook NP540U3C running Windows 8. It is still in warranty, but I am so fed up with it I need to do something to make it work properly. The problem is that Samsung has partitioned the disc so that C: is only 40 Gb, which is far too small to run windows 8, even with all other programmes and everything I can manage being put into D: it keeps running out of space on C:. Why some manufacturers do this I have no idea; it always causes problems, but this one is the worst I have ever encountered. What I need to do is re-partition the drive. What I would like to do is re-partition the drive and change to Windows 7, because as far as I am concerned Windows 8 is not fit for purpose, unless, that is, your purpose is to make it behave like a phone that won't make calls. I have attached an external DVD and told it to boot from that, intending to use the partition manager and set up Windows 7. The only boot disc it will try to use, however, is a windows 8 disc which came with a Medion machine. I haven't let that run because that's not what I want, but I did go so far as to get it booting from the DVD. If the disc I put in there is Windows 7 it shows an error as Not Verified; Windows 2000 or Ubuntu it just doesn't recognise at all; it just goes ahead and boots from the hard drive. I'm wondering now whether what I want to do is even possible. Samsung have obviously done their best to stop anything except Windows 8 being put onto this machine. Is it that other operating systems will not be able to use the touch screen. Any help will be seriously appreciated, so thanks in advance.
  6. I have been working on an idea to create free video tutorials on how to do basic and advanced tasks in both Windows 7 and Windows 8. I have already produced a number of videos, but I would like to know what people are interested in and to have your ideas on what the next videos I create should be. Please let me know what you think would be useful to other people or what you would like to be shown how to do in Windows 7/8. Please feel free to have a look at my website to see what I have done so far. :) windowsguide.info

The problem came last week. I always leave windows update activated and to automatically download and install updates, the thing is that las tweek I was in my pc and it became to lagg A LOT. So i was like... Mmm let me restart it... And in the restart button it said: "Update and restart" so well, I left the computer install ONE update that took about 1 hour to install. After finishing my computer was slow as hell for loading at startup (Never had this problem before). So I was mad and I made all these st*pid stuff of cleanning my temporary files, etc. etc. and for the last thing I made an optimization of the HDD with Raxco Perfect Disc. It was "better", but after using my pc for a couple of hours (I always close it when I don't use it and wake it up when I use it again) it extremely laggs as hell, even if I press Ctrl + L Shift + esc it takes like 40 seconds to load the Task Manager (It opens but freezes for like 40 seconds). This happened just after windows update. Whats wrong!? Since that day I have never: *Never installed a program *There are no new tasks or programs at startup *I don't use an antivirus that laggs my computer (just W Defender), but please, don't comment it's a virus because it's not *Never updated a driver or software. I haven't install anything since that day. *Don't tell me I have to make some maintenance because I already did it. *Leave windows update waiting for a patch: My computer installed again another ONE update that took about 30 minutes. Didn't fix anything. I disabled Windows update and I gained a lot of "performance" since that. The problem is very annoying. If I'm in the facebook app of W8.1 it crashes and freezes. It really takes a long time to try to get back to the Start Menu. If I'm in youtube (Using any browser. I use IE, Comodo or Firefox) a message appears every time and crashes my video. The reason of message: "Shockwave Player crashed" and any of the browsers craches too. When I play Minecraft or Lord Of Shadows 2 it laggs, making like pauses in the game movements, It just freezes, JUST FREEZES! The music player of W8.1 app crashes and can't close it. It keeps playing music :/ Windows explorer sometimes takes like 30 secons to open a FOLDER. Why is this happening? I don't want to spend hours reverting in System Restore Point or make again a Clean installaton of Windows. I have a lot of programms and stuff to backup. :(
  8. So here is my issue, i have been using windows 8 fro about a month now(came pre-installed on my laptop). Everytime i go to turn the computer on( dell e6530) it goes through an automatic repair and then fails, then it begins to repeat. Once it finally gives up and sends me to the blue options screen i cant seem to perform any of the actions that the internet says to conduct. It seems ive tried everything. Could someone please help.
  9. Hi, everyone, Here's a biggie for you. :-) One of my clients is still fully dependent on legacy software that was custom made for them in 1993. (Don't ask. Please. Don't ask.) On the server side this means Novell Netware 4 and Btrieve, on the client side we're looking at either DOS and the Novell ODI stack (network interface driver, IPX protocol and Netware client requester) or Windows XP, the Netware client for XP and a DOSbox. Yes, I know. Ugh. But it's a long story and the reality is I have to suck it up and deal with it. They're at a point where this dinosaur simply cannot be upgraded, and scrapping it in favour of something belonging in this century requires either budget they don't have, or restructuring their workflow which they don't want. Their entire corporate culture has essentially calcified around this piece of crockery for the past 20 years and they want it that way. However. With XP being seriously end-of-life and Windows-8 being standard on all new PCs, I somehow do need to bend over backwards and make this work on W8 one way or another. Which is where virtualization comes in. I understand that Client Hyper-V does not support DOS natively. On Linux I used Oracle VirtualBox, but I have read mixed reports about using that on W8 (it seems to seriously clash with W8's own virtualization to the point where installing VB might break W8 and necessitates a system restore). I have little experience with W8 and none with Client Hyper-V. I realize it was not made to support the abomination above. But somehow I need to let a DOS app run on W8 and let it talk Btrieve to a Netware 4 server using the IPX protocol. In 2014. What are my options? Any suggestion would be a godsend. Thank you! // FvW
  10. Hi, I have a laptop with Windows 8.1 I play a number of games which require internet connection, when playing a game and my charger is not plugged in after a while I will loose connection to the internet. I then try to disconnect and reconnect to the internet however when I try to reconnect the laptop freezes to a point where I am forced to reboot the PC. Does anyone have a similar problem/solution to this, I don't mind having my charger in all the time but I don't really want to discharge my battery so quickly. This problem never occurs when my Charger is plugged in. thanks, Abid Patel.
  11. My wife and I have both just got new ultra books. The PC's are great but they came with Windows 8, which we both find cumbersome and unwieldy. Talking to my friends who have Windows 8, they universally dislike it. My question is, can I turn off the new features and run it as Windows 7.
  12. When I try to shut down my computer, it does not turn off, windows closes but the lit processor freezes, if I fail, so do I have to turn it off and turn it off by pressing the button being the only way to turn off the computer is restarting, if the restart is off. please help,I probe with windows 8 windows 7 but when I tried turning it off and it was deemed. and sorry i don't speak english, i use google translate, but i can understand english :)
  13. I am currently living in an area with such slow broadband speeds that my desktop attempts to download Windows 8.1 (reaching approximately 55%) and then resetting the download. I have no idea if this is timing out. I have been looking for a legitimate ISO download for 8.1, but I have to be honest, I don't really know where to find it.
  14. Hi! I am facing a very weird problem. I had windows 7 in my HP Notebook which was running too slow and lagging at times, I thought I should do system restore and did that using HP tool. It was completed successfully, However the very next day it took showed bppt error and took me directly to startup repair and did not show any issue. I reformatted it. and this happened atleast 5 more times when one of my friends suggested I should do a clean reformat and install new OS I did that. My PC worked well for a week and the same problem reoccured. ever since, I have been formating my PC every 2-3 days. Please Please help me with this! Is my hard disk at fault? no disk check shows any error.

  16. Hey, fellas. Long time no talk, I have Windows 8 but it is giving me way too many bug issues. I can't even activate software or set an image to my desktop. And I had to contact Microsoft because my product key wasn't working. And so I am thinking of going back to Windows 7. However, I do love the look and feel of Windows 8. I would like to know if anyone knows a way to set Windows 7 up a lot like Windows 8. I love the new File Explorer, skin theme, smoother taskbar, and stuff like that. (The tiles screen and corner menus are the only features I don't really have interest in.) Now I have found a few Windows 8 themes for Windows 7, but I want to double check everything here. What would be the "safest" way to do this operation? And also, does anyone know if Windows 8 File Explorer can be installed for Windows 7?
  17. Hey People, New here! Can anyone tell me if I get an Unused Dell OEM product key for windows 8 will it work on a clean install of my tablet? (Acer Iconia W500). Obviously i'd have the correct software for the product key. I have not had problems using OEM keys (inc Dell) for windows 7, but wondered if anything has changed with Windows 8? Thanks :)
  18. So yesterday I finally got around to upgrading to Windows 8 Pro, my college offers a download of it with our tuition costs. My problem is this, ever since upgrading my internet has been slow. Not just slow, like terrible. I live in the country so I get what I can and before the upgrade I was sitting at around 360KB/S. Now after the upgrade I sit at roughly 20KBP/S and 50. I have forced Windows to install updates using the update manager. I have updated my D-Link DWA-160 Xtreme N Dual Band adapter manually. I have reset my router and I have also installed the new driver for my Realtek PCIe Lan Card. I really do not know what to do? I want to say it is a driver but I am not sure what it could be as I have covered all of them?
  19. Well when i restarted my computer a few days ago it said it was gonna update automatically. Then it wouldn't let my computer start up it just flashed on and off like every 2 seconds. then i recovered my info from earlier that day and it was fine until to day when it force updated my computer and did the exact same thing from the last time. I have tried every thing from refreshing to recovery to unplugging :( Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks
  20. Hello, So recently my computer was beginning to get internet issues, as in it wouldn't connect to my wifi anymore. And all it says is "can't connect to this network". I've tried a lot of sollutions on the internet, but until now none of them are succesfull. I've tried to release and renew my ip through CMD, I've updated my drivers. Restarted the router. Re-installed the driver and even reset the bios (through using f10 in the bios screen). i've also tried forgetting the network and reconnecting, but it didnt reconnect. The trouble shooter is no help. The computer says that the wireless network adapter is working fine, which it isn't in my opinion. My computer is the Acer Aspire v3-771G, My wireless netowrk adapter is the Qualcomm Atheros AR5BWB222. My router is a Huawei HG655D wich is protected with WPA2-Pesonal AES key any help regarding this problem would be great! thanks in advance!
  21. I have a computer running Windows 8 that doesn't consistently boot all the time. I built this computer, and when I first installed Windows 8 it worked fine. I then went out and bought a Samsung 480 Pro 120 GB SSD. I updated the firmware and everything, then did a clean install of windows onto it. It worked great for awhile, but it has began to act up. 1 out of every 2 times I start my computer I see the BIOS screen, the Win8 loading screen, then my lock screen wallpaper comes up. The networking icon shows a yellow triangle with an exclamation point, and the computer does not respond to the mouse or keyboard. I then do a hard reset and it sometimes boots from there. I checked error reporting and it says that Windows was unable to shut down correctly. I also see messages about a device driver made by Saitek (I have a joystick made by them, had it plugged in once, is no longer plugged in) that is not being installed correctly. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  22. Hello and thank you for reading. I installed Windows 8 but now the DVD does not recognise blank DVDs for burning. The DVD player is a TS-H493a Windows 8. The movie is .mp4 format but when coming to burn a DVD, the DVD player does not recognise the blank DVD. DVD -RW and DVD+RW have been tried. Nothing. Its not the DVD batch as they are recognised in a laptop with XP. Any ideas gratefully received. Thank you for reading.
  23. Hi all, I have Windosws 8 Pro on my ASUS K70IJ. The pc was originally shipped with Windows 7 and I upgraded to Windows 8 about half a year ago and haven't had any major problems since. That was until yesterday. It seemed like a simple problem, the Metro apps won't open and some tiles won't even load. Anything downloaded from the store will not open and the store won't even launch (se. However, desktop apps will open just fine from the Metro Screen. So far I've restarted the computer several times but it never fixes the issue. I've downloaded the Modern Apps troubleshooter from Microsoft but it didn't solve my problem either. I've tried all the fixes I could find on Google but none worked except one. The fix was to create a new user with a local account. On the new account the Metro Apps would all show up, launch perfectly, and the Store even worked. However I didn't like the idea of having to switch between accounts just to use different apps so I decided to try a Refresh. I didn't want to do one first because I would lose desktop apps and it's a pain to download again and reinstall and find all the serial numbers. But I tried it using my install drive which is a USB. I have done Refreshs before with this same pc and the same USB and it's always worked fine, however now it always fails. Even automatic repair and system restore both fail. My backup drive is in England and I won't be there for another two months and needless to say, I haven't backed up in a while. If anyone has an idea please help me, if it's just a fix for the Metro problem I'll be very thankful. However the failed Refresh worries me. Also, the Metro screen has the same problems in Safe Mode and when I click an icon in Safe Mode (the Store for example) I get a message saying that the Built-In administrator can't open the app, "try with a different account" I don't know if this is normal. I have two USB drives, one that I created when I first went from Win7 to Win8 and one that I created later called RECOVERY which is a boot image or something like that I guess. Any help is much appreciated, Daniel Originally I tried to post this on Microsofts Support Community website but for some reason "The request failed" so I'm desperately looking around for help on other forums.
  24. Hi all, I am building my own PC for the first time. I thought I would save money by purchasing Windows 8 through my school. On the Software download page, Windows 8 is listed for $19.75, quite a bargain. However, now that I look more closely (only when I clock on the product and look for product details) I realize that this is only an UPGRADE, not the full OS. Therefore I need a Windows OS already installed in order to make use of the product (something that is not included in their "System Requirements". Anyway, the point is, I am wondering if I can boot up my new computer with something like Windows Vista or Windows 7 from a flash drive and then download the Windows 8 Upgrade to my hard drive and go from there. If so, can I use an old product key for one of those operating systems? I think we have a disk for Windows Vista and the computer which we installed it to is no longer in use. Can anyone think of a better work-around? Even if I have to buy Vista (~$50 these days I think) and then buy the $20 upgrade, it would be less than the full price of Windows 8 which is probably between $150 and $200. This seems like a pretty big oversight overall because I could not even find the full version of Windows 8 on the microsoft website, and even the customer service person I talked to didn't know how I would purchase it through their site. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. -Ryan
  25. In windows 7 I had a default printer that would allow me to print to a text file. Now its gone in Windows 8, and for the life of me I cannot get it back. I have a report from PAF that would print 80 pages of hard copy, but I need to scrub it down. The way I do this is create a TXT file from the print instruction, then import that to Excel. From there I can sort and scrub. Any silver bullets out there I am unaware. Thanks so much.
