In common, I suppose, with many other households we keep having to buy ball point pens. Not because we do not have any, but simply because we can not find those that we bought before. This supply is supplemented by various charities that seem to think that because they have sent you a ball point pen, with only just ink to fill in a cheque, you should use it all up on a cheque for them.

The problem is where do they all go? Do they wrap around themselves some "cloak of invisibility", or do they migrate to another dimension? I find it most peculiar. Not so peculiar, however, as their sudden reappearance, en mass, in the corner of a cupboard, or at the front of a drawer, or even in an ASDA bag under the spare bed.

I have often walked around, in the silence of the evening, trying to see them on their perigrinations, but so far I have singularly failed. They must somehow transport themselves from where they were last laid aside to the communal ball point assembly area, wherever that may be.

Can any of the erudite members of this forum elucidate please?

It would be nice to get an answer to this before we tackle the questions of a) the drawful of self tangling string and B) the box of mixed and perished rubber bands.

The communal ball point pen assembly area mentioned above is located in the top or inside pocket of your best suit.

At a time predetermined by the time and occasion you are next going to wear the suit (this is usually about five minutes after putting the suit on and when it is impossible to change for another) the assembled pens receive a signal from powers unknown and they then leak their insides on to the fabric of the garment.

For information, pen guts are intensely coloured and have the property of permanently staining just about anything they come into contact with.

On the subject of self tangling string, this has to be trained in this property. There is a string tangling training school at the back of every computer and hi-fi system in the world. Have a look.

I always thought that this was one of the mysic arts of computer building...how to ensure that they were in an inextricably linked conformation. I envisaged years of night school at the Ye Royal Institute For Ye Knotteed String before a certificate of competence was issued.

My 'Charity' ball point pens are all in the first draw of the pine wall unit in the kitchen. I always put them in there as it is on my way to the pedal bin where I place the forms for filling in the donations section. :)

Fortunatly the answer is quite simple (one must be on a higher plain to descern the actions but as one of the many sufferers I can explain)

The answer lies with the female of the species! in their quest to lighten our loads and bring order to our cluttered lives they merrily tidy up and deposite items in their logical storage space. The problem arises when we look in the logical storage space (or where we left it) and find nothing. How many times has the question of ages been asked? "where are my ---" and get the answer "I've not seen it" or "It wasn't me I did not move it".

This illustrates the crux of the logical storage problem! During the tidy process the female will do as the squirrel and bury the object, unfortunatly the process is fully automatic and the memory function is not enabled hence the problem. I have tried recovery procedures including the use of other females(Daughter) but it appears that the logical storage problem recovery system can not be reversed as the normal answer from daughter is where did you leave it!

This is an age old problem that will probably never be adressed as the female constantly evolves and does not follow any logical path.

Unfortunatly this problem is directly related to your other subjects ie. draw full of string and perished rubber bands

Lester, have you tried defraging the female logical storage space to see if that would make a difference.

I have but the female logical storage space appears to be unaccessible I get the message "Data corrupt please reformat"

After many attempts I have given up as the number of illogical combinations caused my PC to lock up with the message

Warning female logical storage has caused an error in you must be joking, this program will terminate please do not send an error report to Microsoft.

This is oh so true in our house. The problem with elastic bands is that our post person appears to be keeping them or distributing them elswhere these days.

The answer to the missing "anythingies" is quite simple.

In a word, Mary.

My partner insists she is an imp responsible for all thingies going missing, she obviously can be in any place at any time.

All you do is say "come on Mary, put the Ball point pen, car key's, programme CD etc; back and hey presto there it is.

I must say I don't seem to have the same success rate :(

 :D

From a female point of view - have you any idea how damn irritating it is to be constantly asked

'where's my...........' - or worse 'where have YOU put my.........'

It's got to the stage where I won't say, even if I know, where the 'lost' item is!!

We women have a multitude of thing on our mind yet STILL mostly know where an item is - most of the time!

;)

Stubborn, cussed creature women are.

As usual, catgate's musings gets us all pondering on the eternal mysteries of life.

But thing are different in our house. I am constantly being asked where an item is and when I ask "Have you looked in such and such a cupboard (it's usual storage place)", Iam told "Of course, I searched it thoroughly".

However, when I look, it is always there, clearly, at the front and in full view.

It can be several minutes before I can get back to my comfy chair, paper, crossword and remote control.

BTW, where does that keep disappearing to?

Thos.

And eye glasses, why are they never where you put them.

We should blame the fairies, ghosts or god. It could provide evidence for another post by Deuces, although fairies are top of my list as we can prove their existence.
