AlanHo Posted January 6, 2006 Report Share Posted January 6, 2006 I went to the cinema yesterday to see a film called "The Producers". :D This is the cinema's advertising write-up :-The movie classic that became a Broadway sensation now becomes a movie musical event. Mel Brooks is bringing The Producers, one of the most honored musicals in the history of the American theater, to the motion picture screen as a sparkling, feature-length musical comedy. The record-breaking Tony Award-winning hit (based on Mel Brooks' seminal 1968 motion picture comedy) received 15 nominations and won a record-breaking 12 awards, including Best Musical, Best Director and Choreographer, and Best Actor. Two-time Tony Award winners Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick return to their celebrated roles as Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom, a scheming theatrical producer and his mousy CPA who hit upon the perfect plan to embezzle a fortune: raise far more money than you need to produce a sure-fire Broadway flop and then (since no one will expect anything back), Max and Leo can pocket the difference. To do this, they need the ultimate bad play, which they find in the musical Springtime for Hitler. Their plans come to naught and the duo are taken completely by surprise when their new production is hailed as a toast-of-the-town hit. Uma Thurman stars as Ulla, the Swedish secretary/slash/receptionist and would-be showgirl, and Will Ferrell brings his spot-on comic talents to the role of Franz Liebkind, the neo-Nazi playwright (and pigeon fancier) responsible for penning the "worst play ever written." It is a film you must all go to see. :rolleyes: It is the most awful, tasteless, unfunny, badly acted, terrible music, lousy dancing and poorly produced film you will see. After this dirge you will surely better appreciate any other film you see in the future. It was so bad - I finished up laughing at myself for continuing to sit there. Quite a few less hardy souls left the cinema part way through. I have concluded that the film producer must have got carried away by his own script and the idea you can make more money from a flop than from a box office success. Thos Posted January 6, 2006 Report Share Posted January 6, 2006 I haven't seen the film nor its predecesser ( It is a remake of one made some years ago) but I have seen the stage version and it is a riot. The funniest stage show I have seen, ever. It has been a sell-out on Broadway and in London for some time and I can thoroughly recommend it. My only complaint about the cinema is the grossly excessive sound volume. Crank up the sound! We have a 36" tv with 5 speakers and crank it up when we watch movies at home. Surround sound makes the movie come alive. I also prefer to watch movies in the comfort of our home rather than having to go out to a cinema complex. Watchful Posted January 7, 2006 Report Share Posted January 7, 2006 I don't go to the cinema now because I hate the complexes, the very loud sound effects and the high price of refreshments.The old type cinemas were the best with all the atmosphere and intimacy :rolleyes: Haven't been since 'Ghost' and the effects were so loud they made my teeth rattle. Very good film though :)Exactly the point that I made about the sound. I also agree about prices. The sweets that you have to weigh into a bag yourself are utter rubbish. The prepackaged ones are at least twice the normal shop price, and popcorn must be made with a good measure of gold dust as an ingredient. We prefer when we go to the cinema to call in at a local shop for sweets. When we went a day or two ago to see King Kong, the drinks started at £2.70 for a small and were over £3 for a large one. -pops- Posted January 8, 2006 Report Share Posted January 8, 2006 I don't go to the cinema now as I invariably get a nauseous headache after a short time but, in the days when I did occasionally go, something that irritated me immensely was the constant noise created by people opening the wrappers on the sweets they had bought in the foyer.Are sweets for sale in cinemas specially designed with "noisy" wrapping paper?
