I miss our old mates, AlanHo & Catgate, and the banter with andsome (I know that he is still posting 'minimally' - probably hoping that the others will resurface).Maybe Craig or someone should contact them? :( Come on, someone do something!!!! AlanHo
I subscribe to a motoring forum which suddenly went off line a couple of months ago and all subscribers immediately received an Email from the administrator of the forum to advise us what had happened, to apologise for the break in service and to tell us when it would be back on line. This was a thoughtful response from the administrator who clearly cared about the membership - especially those who put their hands in their pockets and pay an annual financial subscription.New paragraph......A few weeks ago I tried to log on to this forum and instead got a message stating that "The Bandwidth has been exceeded" or words to that effect. After trying to access this forum for a couple of days without success I got to wonder why us subscribers had not been advised by Email of the reason for the outage. By then Emails were being circulated amongst a few members here who know each others addresses expressing concern and speculating that this possibly marked the demise of the forum (which has steadily been less and less active for many months). Those who contacted me (who are all subscribers like me) were as disappointed as I that the forum administrator had made no effort to contact us by Email to put us in the picture. I am aware that 3 subscribers have decided not to renew their subscriptions because of the situation - there may be more I am unaware of.I decided to wait to be contacted by admin to advise that the forum was back on line and to explain what went wrong. As a subscriber I feel entitled to this courtesy. I am still waiting.I will confess that I have become irritated by the fact that we only seem to hear from the administrator(s) after they have fiddled with the forum layout without a prior announcement and they then have to respond to comments by the bewildered membership. It's a bit like our government - they feel they can do what they like without consultation and get all uppity when we moan about it. It's called mushroom management. I have occassionally visited the forum to see whether any belated announcement about the problem has been posted by admin (I haven't spotted one) and have noticed the absence of other long standing members and the significantly reduced postings of others. It appears to me that Craig has lost interest in the forum - he hardly ever posts here - and he gives the impression by his lack of involvement that he feels he has no obligation to communicate with those who support him with an annual subscription. I would sincerely like to see the forum get back to the vibrant community it once was - but apathy (starting from the top) seems to be taking hold and the light at the end of the tunnel is getting dimmer. Irene
Good to hear from you again Alan. I agree with your comments about lack of communication or explanation.artist and Doug, no offence intended. It's always good to read your posts and comments. You are both Moderators, so I would expect that you were both aware of 'the mystery' surrounding the forum 'exceeding its' bandwidth' - whatever that might mean. If not, then the forum is certainly in a sorry state. :(
