AlanHo Posted January 30, 2009 Report Share Posted January 30, 2009 Here are some statistics about the number of posts on the forum.On 30th September 2008 the home page showed that members had made 248,398 posts to that dateToday the total number of posts is given as 256,027.Hence there have been 7629 posts over the last 4 months.Assuming the forum started in May 2003 - 2125 days ago - the average number of posts per day over the 5+ year period is 120 per dayThe average number of posts over the last 4 months (122 days) works out at 65 per day. As the number of foureye increase the number of punters per foureye must go down. I suppose it could be that like the rest of society these things will stratify, and the text speak brigade will go in one direction, the games players will go in another and the dozey old duffers will stick together as long as we can stand each other. If I am honest, aside from the WF posters requiring assistance, who I always try to help where possible, the 'social' element for me has certainly taken a downturn. It used to be amusing and inspiring, which made regular attendance addictive. I still log in on a daily basis, but I don't find enough to hold my interest. Hb_Kai Posted January 31, 2009 Report Share Posted January 31, 2009 If there is such a thing as a downturn in users then WF management should consider advertisement in some way and a way of yanking on its users and giving them something to stay for.Why don't you put up a suggestions forum to ask specifically this question; what its users think of the forum? This way you can figure out all WF's flaws, improve them, and give its users something to stay for.Also, affilates might help too. Teaming up with other websites can help a great deal and can earn a lot more regulars with wider knowledge maybe too which will be easier for new comers to get the answers they want.Just some ideas if you're worried about it. But would it really help the cause if I - and others - reduced our input to the lounge?I participate occasionally in four other forums - the others being purely technical and you see the same trend there with a reduction in postings. The only one that seems to maintain its momentum is PCA.Perhaps catgate and pops have a point - the increased reliability of hardware and software, the proliferation of forums and the general improvement in people's computer knowledge will inevitably lead to a reduction in appeals for help. But they are probably more in tune with the way society is moving and the standards most of the population are accustomed to.
