This may have been asked before but, it might be time to ask again with so many new members.

Where does your forum or screen name come from?

I'll start the ball rolling.

I got the name pops from what my elder son started to call me when he returned from working in Canada. His daughters quickly caught on and now everyone in the house calls me pops (apparently a term of endearment to grandparents, common in the "colonies"). Even the dog knows who pops is as in "ask pops" and the dog will come and sit beside me.

My name's John really but I have been known as Brian (as in Brian the Snail from the Magic Roundabout). There was no significance in that other than it being as very good TV programme.

Well, I know you are all waiting to read this one, as if, so here goes.

My Great Grandfather's (on my fathers side) first two Christian names were Orthniel Gandalph.

My Grandfather (on my fathers side) first two Christian names were Ralph Wanless.

My Grandfather (on my Mothers side) came from Scotland and was called Harry and had a brother with two Christian names called Colin Hamish

When I was christened I was given three Christian names Colin Wanless Gandalph.

Now at the time of my christening I didn't have a lot of say in the matter but I have heard of Deed pole, but I've sort of got used to them now and besides I only use my first christian name and surname anyway.

Come to think of it, who can blame me.

When I first went on line it was with AOL and after many hours of sitting there eager to get on and having every name I put in thrown out again I used my first name with the first letter of my surname and bingo I was on line. :(

It's quite easy to guess my surname, I don't mind people knowing. I could be named after a famous scientist or a bunch of bad Cowboys!

A few hours before I registered here, I was trying to open an account somewhere else online (I think it was a hotmail account or something similar) and every combination of what I wanted as my username was rejected and it took me some considerable time to have my suggestions accepted. My patience became somewhat frazzled.

Then I was on here lurking (as I often did) and decided I really wanted to register and join you super folks. When I was asked to provide a username I flipped somewhat (after my lengthy experience earlier that day) and shouted at the screen 'Oh for heaven's sake - don't ask me, I can barely remember what my real name is! .... so 'don't ask' became my nickname (I was a little grumpy that day - I guess my high blood pressure problem asserts itself now and again!)
